I just finished setting up a Wilderness Radar 115 electric kayak for my wife. I took it out on a shakedown cruise up at Lake Berryessa. My son was in my electric Radar 135. We launched at Putah Creek Campground around 8:30. It was windier than the forecast predicted so we headed over to Pope Creek to get some calmer water. We didn’t have any luck toplining cast masters in so we decided to try our new Cal Kellog version of a hybrid leadcore setup. I let out the 50ft of top shot, all three colors of leadcore and another 100 ft of braid and trolled out and turned towards Putah Creek. According to Cal I was down to 30-35 feet. I hooked a fish and netted a small bass. When we trolled into Putah Creek I hooked another fish on a Kokanee lure but lost it at the net. Guessing from the spots it was a small spotted bass. I don’t know how it stayed on that long though as neither piece of corn was even dented. I am really happy with both of my Wilderness Radar kayaks. I think I will limit my summertime trips to the waterski lakes. I’m just not into what passes for music these days being blasted by the kids. It was $15 for the day use fee and the gate isn’t locked so you can enter as early as you want to fish. I’ll be back up there this fall.

The biggest screens out there are probably too big to put on a kayak. Some of the newer fancier units have transducers that don't fit all kayaks without hanging out in harms way.

Looking for a moderately priced fish finder mostly for depth. Not too worried about anything super flashy. I've looked at the Deeper Pro that pairs with my phone. Amy good or should I be looking at something else? I am riding in a Malibu Pro 2 Tandem.

I think I would stay clear of phone fish finders. If it gets damaged I think most phones cost more than a basic fish finder. You can mount a FF so it won’t fall out of your hands and overboard. If you want a warranty buy one new. A new basic Lowrance or Humminbird is $300 to $350. Any of the name brands are likely to be useful. I suggest you don’t get one without gps. Being able to track your route on a map and mark your launch or fishing spots is a must.

Look carefully at the specifications of a model before you buy. Sometimes an X indicates no GPS. Sometimes one model year has CHIRP and an earlier year with the same name doesn’t. Some models have sd card slots for upgraded maps, others rely on base maps that you can improve with your sonar tracks.

That's from the fish weather app. Choose the forecast map and touch the spot you want a forecast for and the forecast for a week is produced. It has other features if you pay for the pro version.

I am looking for a replacement console/peddle scupper plug. Anyone have one laying around after installing their peddles? Thanks Ken

Aside from safety gear, less is better on a kayak, especially when starting.

Presuming you have the tankwell version of the Scupper Pro, I would keep a game clip on a tether behind me, clip fish to that and then toss them in the tankwell. If you are going to be out for a long time you could get an insulated kill bag. You can straddle the kayak with both legs in the water for extra stability, and sit side-saddle when accessing things behind you. If you aren't comfortable doing this, practice until you are. A lot of people also leash their paddle (it's not an oar!  ) so they don't have to worry about losing it.

Yes I would always lift my rear with both hands an swing both legs over the side into the water when I wanted to do anything behind my seat. I tied my game clip to the kayak behind my seat. Not too much rope, but enough so you can bring it forward enough to comfortably add more fish. I'd pull the rope when I wanted to add more fish and I hold the end of it and swing it and kind of toss it into the tankwell to put it away.  Practice makes for comfort.
