Thanks for the input all, think I'll save the long drive down to SC for more optimal conditions.

Places to Launch and Camp / Santa Cruz swell exposure
« on: May 27, 2024, 10:56:54 PM »
Thinking of checking out Santa Cruz on Wednesday for the first time as everywhere else is looking pretty off limits, possibly at Mitchell's Cove. No wind but showing a 7 foot NW swell, curious how much of that swell will reach the reefs off of Mitchell's Cove/the lighthouse? Am I better off heading to Capitola?

Is the entire Capitola beach fenced off or just the part next to the pier? I was thinking of heading down there next week since the entire coast up by SF is blown out.

So sad, mushrooms are delicious but I am too afraid to get into foraging for this reason.

Welcome to NCKA.  I too fish from my SUP's.  Several legal halibut, adult salmon and steelhead, striper...  Love the SUP hookups.  Don't forget that a net of at least 18" diameter is required in salt water.   :smt001

Nice! good call, wish SUPs were excluded from that regulation since it is so easy to get the fish on board but rules are rules.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Rod Power Recommendations

The medium heavy you have should be good for rockfishing and lingcod, it's nice to be able to horse fish out of the kelp/rocks. Some people prefer lighter power for halibut trolling but I'm sure you could still catch with that.

That's a helluva markdown, thanks for letting us know

That's a big one. Wish we could dive for them in shallow water like in Hawai'i.
