Wanted To Buy / Re: wanted: duo pedal kayak
« on: March 17, 2025, 07:08:01 PM »
Ezra, I would think a paddle kayak would make more sense, to me. After a long day of kicking/diving your leg muscles could be overworked, hence using a different set of muscles to propel you back to shore would be preferred.
Good luck with your search!

General Fishing Tips / Re: Help w a kayak fishing rod / reel?
« on: February 16, 2025, 06:21:39 PM »
I am not disagreeing with jremi however here are my  dos centavos:
If you're new to ocean fishing fishing I would start with a more economical set-up than the one suggested by the shop, in case your set-up ends up in the soup. By the time you get your sea legs and feel comfortable in the ocean you'll figure out what works best for you. I would not discard the idea of repurposing some of your bass gear, rods and reels.
As far as line goes, I believe 50 pound braid is an overkill and could be potentially dangerous if you get snagged (quite common when rockfish fishing), and attempt to break it off in windy/choppy conditions.
If you have not done it yet, I suggest checking out the link under articles "Catching Halibut from your Kayak"
https://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?page=9

cheers!

Thanks Paul!

I thought of joining you,Paul. Took a look at the conditions at Chicken Point this morning and decided otherwise. Glad you were able to get out and get back safe, with something to show for your effort.
Another option to consider for sandabs, closer to home, would be outside the Mile buoy straight out of Noyo harbor...ocean permitting.
Thanks for the report!

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Re: 2024 Annual Halloween Ghost Story

Awesome! .... and thank you for the location details  :smt002

Scupper pro used to be the Tacoma of spearfishing kayaks, unfortunately it has been long discontinued, however you may find one used.
I agree with jremi, you should be looking for a paddle kayak instead of a pedal kayak for diving/spearfishing/

Sonny, shouldn't you be sleeping by now? ?you're un-retired!   :smt002
Dave is right, it was a fun trip.

Sonny, if you're collecting social security, you will loose a good chunk of it once you exceed your annual limit.

If you are under full retirement age for the entire year, we deduct $1 from your benefit payments for every $2 you earn above the annual limit. For 2024, that limit is $22,320. In the year you reach full retirement age, we deduct $1 in benefits for every $3 you earn above a different limit.
