General Fishing Tips / Re: Bodega, Fort Bragg and Westport

Ocean conditions for Fort Bragg are not favorable for the weekend, wind 20+kn gusting to 30+.
There are 3 breweries in town that could ease the pain  :smt002

General Talk / Re: does anyone dipnet for smelt?
« on: June 11, 2024, 07:24:42 AM »
Ed15, are you looking to buy an A-frame dipnet or just looking to see if there is anyone still building them?
Local tackle shops like the one at Fort Brag harbor may have info...
Please report back on how you did at Westport

Here is a clip on youtube on Kirk Lombard fishing for night smelt, and some tips

If it's windy stay away from Big River, it's a hell of a paddle/peddle against the wind, getting back to the launch.
If you choose Noyo, the best launch is the east parking lot towards Dolphin Isle Marina

Inflatables are usually inexpensive and light however can be challenging to navigate in windy conditions.
A better option IMHO would be Eddyline Carribean 12 at less than 50 pounds empty.

General Talk / Re: Sunglasses that I highly recommend
« on: April 01, 2024, 08:47:24 AM »
Costco sells polarized sunglasses for less than $30, branded as champion, bulova, hobie and their own kirkland...so if they are better than the $99 oakley if they end up in the soup  ;)
