Introductions / Re: New to Kayaking
« on: January 01, 2025, 12:10:42 PM »
Ditch the motor and kayak small lakes and protected areas first, until you are comfortable.   Ditch the motor, at least for now.   If it has a motor, then the kayak has to be registered.  When and if you register, say you just got the motor and only have to register now, or they will gouge you lots of back registration money.   Forget about fishing for the nonce and learn to control the kayak and self rescue.   I originally practiced at Shadow Cliffs near my house.   Had a very unstable kayak with a single occupant.  Stayed near the shore, So, I could drag the boat to shore, if I could not yet get back in.

My Treager is old, and controller went out first year.   Sent me a new one and been fine since.   Bush 2 was President when I got it.  I smoke cheese and fish would do well also with a smoke tube.   Tube on one side and cheese on other side, cold night.   Smoke for about 1.5 hours.   A little less than a half tube.

Milk in tea?   Unless you are English like my sister in law, is bad stuff.

Very close to Misoyaki Butterfish.   Great Hawaiian dish.

I think closed rock fishing, delta and lakes are main areas to target.  Stripers and bass in delta.

From the boat, only incidentally caught stripers in the ocean while mooching salmon.   In my college days, caught a lot of stripers at Ocean Beach.   Mostly tossing Mickey Jigs.   Bass Tub would get outside surf line and toss bait in to the surf to catch stripers.   I don’t know if stripers school in open ocean.

I think 5/16 is easier on the hands pulling.

Heard they have closed New Melones to boating.   Be interesting where we can lake fish soon.   Berryessa has a 30 day quarantine.   Tag the boat and must wait 30 days.

General Talk / Re: 30 MPH Winds On a Lake
« on: November 13, 2024, 08:26:01 PM »
Actually did not look that bad.   More a bad setup.   I was flipped by the wind one time at Twin Lakes in the Sierras.  My inflatable was a little under inflated and we were coming back from the furthest part of the lake.   Wind, rain and hail came up with a vengeance.  Rudder came out of the water and the i11s Hobie spun and the wind picked up the side.   Lost my fishfinder battery and good pair of P-line pliers.   Was near shore, so swam and pulled boat to side.   Waited for a little calming.    Can be scary, but good PFD.

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / New Melones 10/9
« on: October 12, 2024, 10:25:03 PM »
Wife out of town for a luncheon. Took the boat to New Melones.   Have not had it out for a long time.   Few health problems.   Went up Tuesday, but only fished Weds.   nothing trolling for trout and Kokanee.   Marked fish 50-100’ deep.   Little late launch as launched and found out near empty tank.   Probably siphoned in storage.    Not first time over the years.   Heat broke and really nice calm day.   Ended up with one dink bass on Ned rig.  Boat ran well, bow mount trolling motor I trashed on an underwater mount and repaired worked well.
