General Talk / Re: HAPPY BIRTHDAY Sailfish
« on: July 23, 2024, 09:37:42 AM »
Happy Birthday Sonny!  Hope to fish with you soon.

2
I am very interested but don't want to bring any fishing gear.  Do you provide rental rods, reels, tackle, bait etc?  What about the option of fishing on a charter boat for a few days to cover the distance a kayak can't?

3
Thanks for the report.

A friend got a verbal about a having a descender but wasn't readily available, meaning not attached to a rod.
I don't recall anything in writing saying that we need to have a dedicated rod for descending purpose.

This is the exact wording and needs to be available for immediate use.

No person shall take or possess any federal groundfish as defined in Section 1.91 and all greenlings of the genus Hexagrammos from any boat or other
floating device in ocean waters without having a descending device in possession and available for immediate use to assist in releasing rockfish to the
depth of capture (27.20(b)(1)(D)(2)).

Thanks for the reminder about having a descender ready.

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Hobie Revolution - No longer in production

Interesting take on the kayaks being manufactured, with an emphasis on the demise of the Revo.

He has great videos on Kokanee, and trout fishing too.

Completely agree that kayak manufacturers are targeting the bass crowd and coming with big and heavier boats. Since Hobie is a CA company, I am lost as to how they can miss what the local market needs, especially for saltwater.

Any videos of the trip?

I've been using an Amped Outdoors 12v 15ah for 2 years. I get about 12 hours on 7 inch Raymarine Element and 9 hours on my 9 inch Element.  Its been working great.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Budget treble hook replacement (bulk)
« on: July 11, 2024, 08:39:13 AM »
I've been changing both split rings and hooks when using Dynamic lures. I've regularly experienced their factory hooks and split rings fail when pulling on big fish. Here's a pic of a 8lb Lightning Trout caught trolling on 8 lb mono. The top split ring broke and the factory hooks bend easily.  I was lucky to land it.

I got tired of changing their terminal tackle and informed the manufacturer. To my delight they sent me heavier replacement hooks and split rings. Also asked for my feedback on how the new gear performs.

Sharing this thread about Revolutions being discontinued. I really like my 11 and 13.  Sad if its true.

Berkley fishing usually has a big sale at around Thanksgiving. I loaded up on their Fusion Treble Hooks 1X size 10, 8, 6.  They are excellent hooks and just as good as Gami's and Owner hooks. It may be a while for their next big sale.  https://www.berkley-fishing.com/collections/hooks

General Fishing Tips / Re: Kill Bag Recommendations?
« on: May 15, 2024, 08:54:20 AM »
My kill bag is an old Walmart 50 can softcooler.  I've placed 40 lbs plus of fish in it including spiny RF.  Got on sale years ago for $25.
