USA, April 4, 2024
USAngling is proud to announce an exciting new sports team, Saltwater Kayak Fishing, to the USAngling program. USAngling has set up an USA Kayak Fishing Saltwater committee to select America’s best saltwater kayak fishing teams. These teams will represent the USA at the upcoming Costa Rica Pan American Championship in June and the World Championship in Spain this October. These are sanctioned events that will assist in the global effort to gain recognition for sport fishing by the International Olympic committee.

The committee currently consists of: Craig Storms – President, David Elgas – Vice President, Allen Sansano – Secretary, Annie Nagel – Communications Director, Adam Fisk – Team Coach, Robert Field – Gulf Coast Director and Joe Hector – Atlantic SE Director. This committee is establishing a program to build regional qualifiers, national championships, Pan Am events and a path for American athletes to compete in future Saltwater Kayak Fishing World Championships.

CA Regulations / Dec 14 FGC Meeting - MPA Proposals
« on: December 15, 2023, 09:50:24 PM »
I ended up after the large group a speakers pushing for extending the size of the MPAs. After they finished speaking, and I finished the commissioners questioned them hard on their cherry picking the data, and stated it would be a very high bar to get over for the petition to pass. We need to mobilize on this one too.

Any more info on where these MPA speakers are coming from?  Which group(s)?

I’m investigating some home remodelling and looking for some help.  Anyone here a GC in the South Bay?  Or have recommendations on a good GC?  Mainly walls and structural issues?

Hello everyone,

I have made a change to the 2 reports boards to be Read Only.  In this time of Shelter In Place, I don't want to see reports here that may encourage others to go.  Please don't try to get around this by posting reports to other boards. I'll revert this change once the SIP orders have been lifted.

Wanted To Buy / Looking for hardwood chips
« on: November 02, 2018, 07:01:18 PM »
Anyone have any hardwood chips, preferably oak, that they'd like to unload?  I'm working on a mushroom project and need maybe only a yard, 2 tops.  Lots of free on CL, but they are trying to unload 20+ yards at a time, and it's not certain you'll get hardwood.

Site Discussion / [SITE] PM Attachment cleaning house
« on: February 08, 2018, 10:43:21 AM »
The disk space being used by PM Attachements is getting too large.  Heads up ... I plan on cleaning out old attachments in 1 week on Feb 15.  I will start by cleaning out attachments older than 1 year and see what that does to disk space usage.  So you have 1 week to save any old attachment you care to keep.

Anymore issues you all are seeing after this latest server move?  I'm keen to address these now, as I'm planning an update to the forum software.  I'd like to get issues addressed now, so I don't do an update and think it is the update that caused the issues.

Note, this is separate from AOTY issues as that is separate software.  But if you're seeing AOTY issues, please bring those up to so we can address.

THANKS!   :smt006

Site Discussion / [SITE] Server move to fix AOTY/DOTY
« on: October 17, 2017, 09:01:52 AM »
So after a lengthy debug, we have decided to move servers once again, this time to fix AOTY/DOTY.  I will be scheduling it for some time this weekend.  So if you see the server down, and it will be for ~24 hours, maybe longer, you know why.

Site Discussion / [SITE] Too many emails
« on: September 08, 2017, 11:26:49 AM »
Lately we've been hitting out email per day limit with our email provided.  That limit is at 500 emails.  Currently we are 2.5 days behind in sending mails because of this.  I took a look at the mail queue.  Most of them are notification of replies to a topic, or of new topics (geez, a bunch of you subscribe to the For Sale section, no wonder some people move fast.

I'll be looking into a cheap email service with a higher minimum.  But in the meantime, I plan on disabling these functions, perhaps first disabling the new topic notification.  I mean, come here to see new topics.  Anyways, just a heads up, and a thread for you all to bitch about it in.   :smt005

Safety First / Speaking of PFDs ...
« on: July 06, 2017, 08:44:38 PM »
When's the last time you checked if you PFD is worn out and needs replacement?

http://www.canoekayak.com/gear/when-should-you-replace-your-pfd/#jdj9tgd8Dff8PZpT.97

Or when's the last time you double checked the fit, that all straps are secured snuggly, all zippers are zipped fully when in use, and that the PFD doesn't move freely when someone tries to lift you by the shoulder straps?

I posted this on facebook last night, and started a mini-shitstorm.  Thought it might be good fodder for discussion here.  Have at it!

I know I might receive a bit of heat for this ...

Who are you to tell me to always wear a PFD? Are you the same person that tells me I must use a bicycle helmet, wear a seatbelt, or cross in the crosswalk? Meh! I think it's better to educate people, but still leave the decision up to them. Education does not mean bullying, or goading, or guilting. I know when I need a PFD, but I also know when it is below my risk tolerance, and at those times may choose not to wear one. So what of it?
