Looking at our hats gives you an indication of the wind strength

Another great time at the Cove.  Thank you Eric and your family for another outstanding event.   Chef Ricci and the crew had people lining up for their delicious fish tacos.  Brandi and Claire did a tremendous job with the fish prints.

Congratulations Matt!  Another job well done.  It was really nice to catch up with you and your brother Chris, who also brought in some quality fish.

My brother and I got on the water early and started to head for the red can.  There was a nice breeze early so about half way there we decided to turn around and fish closer to shore.  The rockfish bite was slow, but, the lings were on the chomp.  My brother brought in a 29” ling and a 16” vermillion, while I turned in a 28” ling and a 17” cab.

I'm not a boat owner (unless you consider an Hobie AI to be a boat...), but how could it possibly make any sense to inspect boats but not kayaks?
[/quote]

They probably have to draw a line somewhere on inspections.  If you do all kayaks then wouldn’t they have to do all SUPs?

I seen on the local news that due to the amount of trailers and motorized vessels being inspected that they are moving inspections to Granite Bay.

Did they inspect your kayak? I go to Natoma occasionally for short paddle when I don't have time to go fishing.
No.  I went a little after 6:30 am before anyone started working there.  I found out going early I have a better chance of seeing beavers, river otters, and an occasional bobcat.    The sign only says trailers and motorized vessels need to be inspected at Beals Point and then do a 30 day quarantine.

Both lakes are closed for motorized vessels due to the golden muscle invasion.  All trailers and motorized vessels will need to go through a 30 day quarantine.  Good news is I was able to still launch my kayak today.

A guy in an inflatable caught this 65 pounder last summer. He was kind  enough to share a little bit of his catch with me.

The day Matt caught his beautiful Pacific Halibut my brother caught this big ling.  I caught nothing but minnows that day and I had to listen to my brother tell me how he kicked my butt for a whole year.

Here is Matt with his tourney winning beauty.

Here is Darius with the pacific halibut he caught the day after the tournament.

I think it was GS7 when the big Black Bear was terrorizing us in the campground.
Ate my tortillas and destroyed my ice chest.
It’s GS5. Looking back at the GS5 May 15, 2011 thread and reading about the wet cold weather and seeing pictures of Darius and my pacific halibuts caught confirms it for me.

The rainy day tournament was GS5.  Here’s a picture of the hog trough I got that day.

I do remember the rainy GS. The weather was wet and cold but the fishing was red hot. I think my brother was still shivering an hour after we landed.
