Reliable sources reported a big improvement in the halibut and striper action ARW. At least two 30 plus inch butts were caught from shore the other day. I'm predicting that the winning handline fish will be over 34" which will be way bigger the 1st place fish I caught for TLA's 2023 ARW King of the Wall tournament.

Mr. X..... Great minds think alike. I've been looking at those interesting kite reels for some time now to try for handlining fish and especially for catching bait and managing those damn sabiki rigs. Anyways, I just now ordered one on Amazon and it'll be here tomorrow. I hope it can handle a big fish. If not, I'll be returning it for sure. I'll definitely be bringing my trusty old school handlines as back-up.
I'm looking forward to coming back and defending my title ... but mostly looking forward to the fun and company which is all that really matters!!! Thanks Glen for reviving the event. It'll be a blast .... and the more the merrier!! 4

KUDOS to Keith and Moo for putting on an AWESOME, well organized event!
THANKS to CCK and Hobie for the sponsorship support and goodies! CONGRATS to Kiel. All hail the "King of the Wall! " Couldn't ask for a more beautiful day for a derby and the fish were on the bite too. I had a blast hanging with old friends and meeting news ones. The all-you-can-eat tacos and hot dogs were excellent! 5

I've missed Albion these last few years, but I'll be back for this last one for Craig. In his honor, I'll be sponsoring a my infamous BEER TEMPURA & PANKO BATTERED FISH FRY ....this THURSDAY, FRIDAY, & SATURDAY NIGHTS featuring this recipe that I've been doing for NCKA events since 2005.

First of all, THANKS again to Glen for putting on the event. A lot of us take our fancy rod and reels for granted while much of the world's fishermen still successfully fish with ol'school handlines. For me, that's what makes any catch on a handline more challenging and special.
You guys were all awesome to come out and play on day when the big sheep came out early and dominated the playing field! Chillin' with old and new friends is always the best part of any FnC! 11

I'll be there. This is always one of my favorite events THANKS to Glen.
I'm expecting to see some nice fish caught on derby day. 12

Ol' Skool handlining bringing out this OG Ol' Fart
Looking forward to this hook-up fo' sure! Maybe I can hope for "newbie luck" considering I haven't caught a handlined fish since I was about 12 years old. 14

Hey Tote.... Awesome work! We're all envious!
Ditto MontanaN8V's suggestion for a backstop netting or curtain if you're concerned about shooting into a neighbor's yard. I'm thinking about it. Not cheap though... http://www.lancasterarchery.com/salesperson/result/?q=backstop%20netting&Trigger=ac For now, I shoot indoors and my backstop is drywall and stucco. I have a small tub of wall patch on-hand just in case I make a boo-boo. Practice at home is important to me. I do it for fun, stress relief, and form practice for target and bowhunting. It's ideal if you have a safe 20+ backyard shooting lane, but anyone can shoot at home even if your safe shooting lane is only 5 yards. Just aim for the smallest target you can see. Remember.... "aim small - miss small". I strive for "minute of angle accuracy"..... .5" groups @ 5 yards, 1" groups @ 10 yds, 2" @ 20 yds, 3" @ 30 yds, 4" @ 40 yds, 5" @ 50 yds, 6" @ 60 yds... and so on. 15
