Hello all,

I was looking into purchasing my first kayak and have plans to looks at a Jackson Kraken 13.5. Knowing it is a few years old now and out of production, I was wondering, for any of you that own them, what are your opinions on them after having them several years? I appreciate any advice. For reference, I will be fishing the Sonoma coast and dropping crab pots. I am 5'9 and 155 lbs. Thank you.

I forgot. Anything to look for especially as it is used? Meaning anything on this specific kayak that may be prone to wear? Thanks again.

I've van topped my Kraken 15' for 5 years and am still quite thrilled with it's condition.  I"m sure it's a lil' faded yet moves like a beast...same seat...maybe 303'd it 3 times in 5 years.  Plenty of scratches so I have a few spots i'd like to coat with jb weld.  Other than that I hope I get 10 more years out of her... :smt006

Thanks! Good to hear that they seem pretty durable.

They are really durable, for sure. The tradeoff is they’re a little heavier than other kayaks with similar dimensions/displacement. But its honestly the weight isn’t that bad. It paddles pretty well...I never use the seat in the high position though.
The only thing that bugs me is I have to remove my rod from the holder each time I open the hatch (when I have my rod holder in the tracks on the hatch cover).
