CA Regulations / Re: Dungie crab butter, safe it eat?

I may be missing something here, but how do you remove BEFORE cooking if you're supposed to cook the crab while they're still alive?

I work a block from there and finally did a walk through an hour ago.  To answer your questions, NOOOOO!  Maybe the free concerts at night, but I didn't see anything today worth making a day out of.

Introductions / Re: Hello from Point Bonita
« on: January 02, 2016, 11:17:19 AM »
Do you really live out at Point Bonita?  Ever thought about wheeling a yak down the trail from the Upper Fisherman's parking lot?  Seems like a bit of a project but maybe easier than some of the hike in's I've read about on this site.  I've landed on that beach once after paddling out from Ft. Baker and it's super protected, especially during summer/fall.  About a 10 minute walk down the trail, a couple of tricky steps near the bottom but seems doable with the right wheels.

also pretty easy to park east of there on Sir Francis Drake Blvd., just west of the back entrance to San Quentin and launch from the beach where the wind surfers launch.

Places to Launch and Camp / Re: Angle Island Beach Landing
« on: March 12, 2015, 02:29:38 PM »
Awesome beach on the East/SE side of the island, very protected, and you'd probably have it to yourself.  Make sure you access it from the north though as that SE point (closest to Alcatraz) has some nasty current.  There's a small public launch in Sausalito on Bridgeway @ Turney St., near the old Margaritaville restaurant.

CA Regulations / Re: Aerial Fish Planting in High Elevation Lakes

Over 20 years ago I was at Richardson Lake above Tahoe when all of a sudden this big plane comes over the ridge, swoops down over the lake, opens a hatch and out come the fish!  We caught a lot of fish that weekend.   :smt003

CA Regulations / Re: Catching Crabs on Rod and Reel
« on: August 29, 2014, 04:46:06 PM »
Assuming "Crab Loop Nets" refer to "snares" that are attached to line and rod, that is the way they are designed to be used and are legal.  I think Dale may have misread the question, as it asked if they were "illegal."  Nope, legal, and effective too!

General Fishing Tips / Re: Where to best hit Salmon hitting the Bay?
« on: August 19, 2014, 08:57:48 AM »
I would echo what Chivo707 said, the Ft. Baker Coast Guard station is probably your best bet.  It's too bad their isn't a more viable launch in downtown Tiburon, although there is actually a small beach labeled "Public Shore" in front of the last building along Main Street near the entrance to the Corinthian Yacht club.  The actual access is pretty poor however, as you'd need to park in the downtown lot and sling your yak over a railing as I recall.  The beach I'm thinking of is the one where the Tiburon Mile swim race ends,

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: STRIPERS

Brickyard and Marin Islands in San Rafael.  Launch from the cove on Pt. San Pedro Rd about 3.5 miles from Central San Rafael 101 exit, at Riviera Drive.  About 20 ft. from car to water.  Just read a report of Stripers at the islands but haven't been out lately.  Good luck!   :smt006

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: Lake Tahoe report
« on: August 12, 2014, 11:03:52 AM »
My nephew hooked a nice rainbow off the Agate pier a bunch of years ago (end of July) with Powerbait, a big surprise to me.  The advice I got at that time to fish for the rainbows from a yak was to get out to just past where you can't see the bottom near some rocky structure and drift an inflated worm near the bottom.  Can also try the same over near Sand Harbor.  Charters also fish for Macs near Kings Beach in the summer.

My daughter just did surf camp there mid-July and when we dropped her off I went down to the beach and couldn't figure out why I had read so many comments about it being a bad launch spot.  Maybe the conditions that day were abnormal, but it looked pretty doable.  Oh yeah, there was also HALF a sea lion on the beach, so maybe that was it.   :smt044
