Took a walk on the beach today to try out my new 12 1/2 ft. ultra light 4-8lbs rated.

I started out grubbing with a 1 1/2" Kaylin gold flake.  And hooked into a 12" Bard perch on the first cast. The tide was allready -up so i swithched to a 3" Kaylin red flake and started to hook into BIGER FISH here's a pic of the fish.

It's getting to be that time again for the big Bard perch all the fish caught were Male. Soon the big mamas will start to show up :smt003

Arrived at MBK about 5:30am and met up with Ark and a few minutes late with Sackyak. Same routine, we prep ed the kayaks and fishing gear before the launch. The morning air was crisp and fresh to the breath. There was no wind and the water was flat with a mirror finish. NO doubt that it was going to be an easy launch and paddle to the fishing ground.

Once everything was ready I found that I didn't bring any fishing weights and Ark realize he didn't bring his Paddle :smt013 Bummer! because Monterey Bay Kayak doesn't open till 9am for Ark to rent a paddle. Ark was nice to loan me a couple of sinkers and said he will catch up latter.

I went and launched to meet up with sackyak who allready was fishing at the kelp beds. Once I caught up with him e2g (Eugene) was also there fishing hooking up to some small blues and sackyak had 3 nice size blues on the stringer. I dropped down and immediately hooked up one keeper blue. By this time Ark radio's in to tell us he was on his way out so we decided to paddle out to the yellow can. again it was so flat out there I was surprise that this surfer passed me up to beet me to the yellow can :smt005

Anyways, here's some pic's:  I ended up with my limit and CR a underling I'll let the others boys tell there story.

Got on the beach at 5am to claim my spot for a day of fishing and BBQ. Little that I new that the big canoe race was going to take place and soon the beach was going to be full of spectators and event participants.

I got the yak set up and headed out about 8am. The water was nice and flat to make an easy and effortless launch the water was 62 degrees.  Aaron A.K.A gatohser and Paul a new commer(nice to meet you) was already out on the water just past the kelp bed near the first red can. We were hooking up some small blues.

Soon after that we decided to head out into eighty feet of water to fished the reef marked by the big, yellow can. I started to mark fish  between 45 to 70 feet. I immediately drop down the  iron and started to jig, but with no love. I added some strips of squid and still no luck. Still marking fish I decided to go with whole squid with the halibut stinger set up. And with that I got my limit of rock fish and a nice ling.

Headed in after 4 hr of good fun of fishing and enjoyed the rest of the day watching the canoe race.

I took a lot of pictures but not all came out but here's a couple anyways :smt001

I started to fish just a few yards in on the dam and started to cast. shortly after A few cast I started to hook-up.  Nice bright fish, all silver and healthy. Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Day after X-Mas Perching

Hi,

Arrived at Manresa State Beach with Craig approxamitly at 08:30hrs. Randy and Pat arrived about 09:00hrs. with some home made Cinnamon rolls.(Very tasty Pat thanks again). We ate and set up the perching rods. Still waiting on Joel (Mooch) and Joel (Bigred). Turns out they parked in the North parking and we parked at the South Lot, near the camp site gate. Sad to say that between the six of us and covering all the water in-between the north and  South parking lot,... we got nothing! :(

The beach was littered with mounds of dead kelp and the holes where fragged with debris. Very nice day. No wind or rain. The water surge was almost perfect. Just no fish or any sign of the sandcrab colony.

Still had a great time working the surf for the Bard-SF. I'll try again, this time at Pajaro State Beach near the  Salinas River this weekend.

Met with Henry (Dolphin) at monterey Bay Kayak at 07:30Hrs. We Launch and headed towards the red bell buoy. We started to fish for sanddabs in a 140ft of water and immediately started to hook into the flat little guys. The bay was pretty calm and loaded with baitballs all over the place. Anchovies every where! The Sea Gulls, Seals, ect...where having a feast. After loading up on sanddabs we headed toward the big hotel (Monterey Bay Hotel on the beach) formally known as the Holiday Inn. We dropped down into 70-80ft to each catch 1 blue. Fishing was slow for rockfish. I think they were just fat with all the Anchovies in the water. It was pretty amazing to be surrounded by millions of fish with there mouth wide open and braking the surface. I was wishing we had a net that we could try scooping them up with. Anyways, Henry and I paddled toward the coast Guard pier and just decided to head in. I ended up with 41 sanddabs and 1 blue. I'm not sure haw many Henry ended up with. Thanks Henry for the company. That was quite the paddle we did that day. Back on the Beach around 3pm.

Hello every one!

It's been about a week sense I last posted. I had some computer issues I couldint figure out :smt009

Anyways, I went perching on my lunch brake today near the Monterey Dunes Colony. I got on the beach about 12noon and worked the first sand bar out of the trail head. The tide was allready going out, so I had to hurry and start fishing. I took my first cast and immediately I new I had to change my weight from a 3/4oz to 1oz. The storm front is starting to come in and the wind and rain gusting from the south, what felt like to me 30mph, I was about to leave but the looks of the surge was just to tempting to pass up.
I put my rain gear on and put my back to the wind and rain, and started to cast into the surf...Bammm! I hooked into my first bard perch. Only A 9 incher.  I kept it because I'm fishing for dinner. So I take my second cast and at the end of my drift I hooked into a nother 9 incher. Then I see this big bubble head pop up in front of me and thought to my self... Dam this Seal is steeling my fishing hole :smt013 Finally it leaves and I continued to cast the MOGF (motor oil gold flake) at the edge of the sand bar. It took me a few more cast till I hooked into  another fish, this time my 10-1/2 ft. Noodle Rod is doubled over and line peeling out of the shimano TX 4000 real. It's a fat 12 inch Bard perch. I hurry to un-hook it and take another cast and the MOGF get slammed again a 10 1/2 incher...I'm getting excited now. I hurry to cast again and as I'm swinging my rod tip forward my bell on my reel shuts and snaps my line and sends my egg sinker and leader flying out to sea. To make things worst, not one, not two , but three bubble heads pop's up in front of me :smt010 So I take the time to tie up another leader and by this time the seals have left the hole and the wind and rain stop. It's quarter to 2pm I'm one fish away from my limit of 5 and have to be getting back to work. I put a fresh grub on and I wait just for the right surge and I cast just past the first wave and worked it slowly through the edge of the sand bar and that's where I get slammed by the bigest and last bard perch of the day...12 1/2 inches in length and 4 3/4inch wide.
It was a fun and exciting 2hr. lunch brake. I was just glad that i brought my goretex rain suit with me. Otherwise I would of just got back in my car and went to MacDonald's or Jack in the box.  :smt003 Till next time.......Happy fishing. For those who's not familiar with the the area. Do a google search on MONTEREY DUNES COLONY and you could see haw it look like bird eye view. My brother took pictures but wasn't able to get  them to me just yet.
