Hey team,
It was brought to our attention that a member of our NCKA family might need help paying bills due to ongoing cancer treatment. So I rallied the Ahulls & AOTY/DOTY Committee to see how we could help. We unanimously approved a $1000 donation from the PIF fund, which is basically all we have left (minus $ set aside for awards). That’s partially because we didn’t host the big PIF fundraiser event last year (it’s scheduled for August 8 this year), so the fund is mostly AOTY entry fees at this point. Thanks to the NCKA express network (including Big Jim & Nate spinal tap), we were able to get the $ to him on Saturday.

I speak for everybody when I say I wish there was more we could do. So, we’re thinking about setting up a virtual kayak raffle or a gofundme account. He’s not the kind of guy who wants attention...but if you know Marv, you already know he’s one of the nicest, humblest, coolest, and most deserving of support.
Thank you.

Great move, thanks Pat. I'm in on the GFM or raffle, just say when/where.

Well, we haven’t quite figured out the logistics yet (raffle vs gofundme). It seems like a raffle might generate more $ but there are more “hoops” to jump through...just thinking out loud here

We can do the auction of donate items here and send the money to "gofundme" afterward.

I've got a shipment of gaff hooks arriving soon, I'd be happy to donate a custom gaff to a raffle for Marv.

What's the best way to just donate now?  I don't want to wait for a raffle to be set up.

Good job guys.   I’m down for some raffle items as well. Or an auction here. Then maybe we could individually send our items to whoever wins them. It would take some logistics out of the equation. Someone would just have to accept the money. I would be willing to pay for the shipping of my items.

How about the winners of the auction items will make the contributions to whatever system setups later (Paypal or Gofundme, etc...) then we'll ship the items to the winners on our dimes.

I second this sentiment.  Let's not spend a ton of time trying to maximize money raised.  I'm afraid our friend has more needs than time.

I dropped off the money and asked what message he'd like for me to convey to you guys.

"just thanks"

A man of few wasted words.  At times, I'm not very good with conversation.  Most of the time there, I felt he deserved someone who was better at being upbeat.

Thank you PK for taking the lead on this, to Gwhiz for the heads up, and especially to Nate for allowing us to zap him $$ and then dropping off the cash in person.

I agree with Nate...time is of the essence.....

Marv asked for no PayPal/electronic $ and let me know that cash was preferred right now.

Sincerely,

Jim
