General Talk / CA state garage sale
« on: August 28, 2009, 06:05:57 PM »
Went to the CA state garage sale this morning hoping to find a great deal on used laptop but they're all sold out when I got there!  Took pictures of this place and some interesting items.

Too bad I don't need a desktop computer. Do you?

Need a lathe mill?

They even have a kayak for sale  :smt003

Try to figure-out what did they (our goverment) do with this pull chair?

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Tomales bay 8/26

Took my friend out kayak fishing at Tomales bay.  It's a nice day with FAC water in the morning.  This is his first kayak fishing trip and I think he's hooked!  :smt003 I trolled and drifted for Hali while he's having fun catching bait fish.  Hooked a big Hali on live Mackerel and enjoyed the 5 minute sleighride but it broke my 25lb leader on my second attempt to net it.  Oh well...maybe next time...

Recipes / Smoked Pepper Halibut
« on: August 17, 2009, 01:48:05 PM »
Smoked Pepper Halibut Recipe

Ingredients

1-1/2  pounds fresh or frozen halibut cut 1 inch thick
2  canned chipotle chile peppers in adobo sauce
2  tablespoons adobo sauce
1  medium red sweet pepper, cut up
2  tablespoons lime juice
1  teaspoon dried oregano, crushed
2  cloves garlic, halved
1/4  teaspoon salt

Directions

Thaw fish, if frozen. Rinse fish; pat dry with paper towels. If necessary, cut fish into 4 serving-size pieces. For marinade, in a blender container combine chipotle peppers, adobo sauce, sweet pepper, lime juice, oregano, and garlic. Cover and blend until pureed. Transfer half of the marinade to a shallow dish; set aside remaining marinade.

Add fish steaks to dish, spooning some of the marinade over fish. Cover and marinate at room temperature for 30 minutes.

Drain fish, discarding marinade. Sprinkle fish with salt. Grill fish on the greased rack of an uncovered grill directly over medium coals for 8 to 12 minutes or until fish flakes easily when tested with a fork, turning once halfway through grilling. Heat reserved marinade and serve as sauce with fish. Makes 4 servings.

Met Adam, Allen, and Patrick at the parking lot around 7am. OTW by 7:30am.  Dustin, Don, and Chad arrived later and joined us for the Hali hunt.  It's a gorgeous but slooooow day!  No Hali love for us today.  The highlight of the day for me was a BIG bendo and sleight ride which I thought it was a nice Hali but turnout to be a Leopard shark.  Off the water by 5pm.  All and all it's nice day OTW with friends!!!

Bendo big time!

Met Kiel and his outlaws...oop I meant in-laws  :smt003 at 4:45am and loading up the kayaks.  Amazing how they can jam 4 kayaks into this small pickup truck!

We stopped on top of the hill to take a picture of the foggy valley.  What a beautiful view!

Met and said hello to Chad/Chadrock and Sarah

We carried the kayaks to the beach and getting ready to launch

The launch was a piece of cake since the water was FAC

A flock of birds flew over in nice formation

Kiel and I arrived at Miller Point boat launch at 7:45am.  It's foggy and very little wind

On the water around 8:15am.  Kiel's braking in his new T-13

We're heading toward Hog island to catch some live baits

We caught enough live baits for the day wihtin 1/2 hour and trolling live baits toward the deep channel.  Hog island was lively with lots of wild lifes.

It's a gorgeous day on the bay for kayaking.  Saw many touring kayakers enjoying the "perfect" weather for this bay

Looking for someone to fish with at Tomales tomorrow morning.  Most likely will be launching at Miller Park around 8am.

My first time at LM.  Arrived at LM state beach parking lot around 5:15am and waited until 6:15am but didn't sea anyone at the parking lot.  Tried to reach someone on CH69 but no reply!  Found out later that they meet at the small shopping "mall" near by (thanks to Allen).  Mooch and John/jdyak launched first while Tom/sirius, Ty/Ty_SuperFishMan, and I getting ready to launch next.  Mooch told us over the radio to hold off our launches as condition is not favorable for fishing out there.  So while we waiting for the condition to improve, we tried fishing from the surf and practice surf launching/landing.  Later Tom went out to join them but no one catch anything except for bait fish  :smt003  I have great time fishing from the surf and practicing crash landing  :smt003

This is my third time attending the derbies hosted by FW's Eric and boy let me tell you he sure know how to throw "HOT" parties  :smt003  I tried trolling/drifting using different lures, swim baits, and popsicles but did not even get a bite all day and did I mention it's HOT?  :smt004  Around noon time this place turned into a zoo with jet skies and ski boats "flying" around so I called it a day.  Only 2 Stripers caught by NCKAers today!  Sorry no fish pictures this time  :smt009

Sunrise

Eric pulled up around 6:15am

The water was so low!

It's time to get dirty again!  Low tide at Tomales on that day is -0.5ft at 7:51am.  Will go crabbing after clamming and trying to catch some fish while soaking the crab nets.  Will be at the parking lot around 6:30am and launching the kayak around 7:00am.  Companies are welcome!

Met Ed/fishemotion, Patrick, and Allen at the parking lot.   OTW by 8am, windy all day long.  Caught and released a 21" Hali and about 4-ft long Leopard shark.  Patrick and Ed both got 1 Hali each.

Anyone interested in Sturgeon/Striper fishing around Mare Island area in late August?  If we got enough people, I can ask my friend to use his private property for parking/launching.
