Looks amazing! Definitely will have to try this!

I picked up one of these descenders from Amazon. Makes it easy to release them at the right depths. Just set the depth you want them to be released at and then drop it down.

Hopefully, someone can develop a fish identification app linked to the applicable regulations.
By taking a photo of a fish, it can tell species, size, (automatically capture GPS coordinate and date) and tell me if I can keep the fish or not and how many.

This would be a great project for one of my CS students, I'll try to pitch it and see if I can get any takers. It would be interesting to see how accurately fish can be ID'ed from pictures. I suspect there would be quite a few ambiguous cases, but at least the app could then tell you what to look for to distinguish between the possibilities...

We might start by collecting rockfish photos. If we make serious progress, we might be able to pursue grants from CDFW, PFMC, or CCA.  Additionally, it could provide a fishing log function.  I know ESRI/Survey123 has a fishing log app.  I want to assist people unfamiliar with CDFW regulations, which are overly complicated.  As I stated before you need a PhD to understand our regulations.

There’s an app called Fish Legal already has a lot of the information you’re talking about. Maybe you can talk to them and build off of what they already have. Might be easier to add to their system then to start one from scratch.

What a jerk!  I tried to buy it too.
I’m glad no one in NCKA has gotten scammed by this guy! I posted it just to bring awareness and hope no one fall for his scam!

For Sale / Hobie Livewell for sale
« on: March 19, 2024, 01:23:41 PM »
I’m selling my Hobie V2 livewell. I have used it for minnows maybe 10 times and used it as dry storage and rod holder a few time also. It looks and work like new. I don’t think I’ll be using it anymore so I need to sell it. The are $480 new. I’m asking $250 for NCKA members. PM me if interested. I live in Rancho Cordova.

lol it sounded like a great deal and would love this setup. I’ve heard of a few other guys having this same type of scamming problem with other kayaks on Craigslist. Buyer be aware!!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Craigslist scams?
« on: March 18, 2024, 12:51:02 PM »
I looking for a hobie rev. kayak for my daughter and wife. I contacted this guy was setting up a time/place to check it out. He was trying to get me to give him a deposit or down payment on it before even actually seeing it. Once I mentioned that I won’t do that and that I want to look at it first, he stopped talking. Also he never contacted me by texting or calling my phone and only talked through the Craigslist email. Just be aware of possible Craigslist scammers!

They should make the fish limits on PBs 6 bottom fish, 1 ling and must fish outside the 20 fathom line. Then let private boats and kayakers alone. Also make it a requirement for all boats that are fishing to have and use fish descenders.

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Well. My 2022 Outback Hull cracked.

I’m glad that it was an easy experience for you! Definitely like the idea of adding extra foam support using yoga blocks! I think I will be doing the same thing!

Hobie Kayaks / Re: Well. My 2022 Outback Hull cracked.

I had to deal with a hobie warranty back in 2018. It was a lot of BS! I bought the 2018 pa14 brand new from CCK. I took it out on the sax river and trolled around for salmon for around 3 hours before the kayak started to feel heavy. I thought it was just me. I got back to the dock the hull had about 10 gallons of water in it. Took it straight back over to CCK and we found out that all of the scuppers were leaking. Hobie wanted me to put a go pro by each scupper and take it out to prove it was leaking. I told them if they send me the go pros that have night vision I will. The head of the warranty department Jock is a pr**k to say the least! After over a month of back and forth with Hobbies management the owner of CCK contacted me and said to bring the kayak back to them and they have a new one with my name on it and they will deal with hobie. I honestly was thinking that I would never buy another hobie because of my experience with them but if you want a top of the line peddler you just have to.

I really hope you don’t have to deal with the same BS as I did and your warranty will be a lot easier!

*** FYI… Anyone dealing with a warranty through hobie know this… If hobie ever asks you how you are storing and transporting your kayak make sure to tell them you store it on a stand with their kayak support cradle! Jock told me if you’re not transporting and storing it with the cradles then that will void the warranty.

Very sad and my thoughts goes out to that family! Wish people thought about their safety a lot more! How stupid they both were being out there with no life jackets! If you are not prepared for being in the cold water when on a kayak you’re flipping a coin on if it’s your day to die. Flipping a kayak or being knocked out of your kayak isn’t a if it happens thing, it’s a when it happens thing. I just hope when it does happen to you, you are prepared and are wearing proper safety gear and clothing for the water temps you’re in. Also practice self water rescue! It’s way different getting back in your kayak on the ocean with all the waves then a lake so please practice in both scenarios. I have flipped my kayak with my 8 year old daughter. Lucky the water was 81 degrees, we were both prepared and practiced getting back into the kayak. It could have been much worse like this story if we weren’t ready.

General Talk / Re: Veteran - National Park Free Lifetime Pass
« on: September 07, 2023, 12:27:19 PM »
Kinda silly that currently serving active duty folks aren't included for the State parks pass.  Life is tough with an enlisted person's salary here in CA.

Exactly! I believe that anyone actively serving should be included! Give the current military members an opportunity to enjoy our state parks on their days off or on vacation without charging them to enter the parks or to camp. Until you pin on sergeant stripes you’re not making a lot of $.
