For Sale / Re: Hobie Drive with Turbo fins and wheelers cart

That looks like a v1 mirage drive. If so, I believe replacement chains are not available, and you must buy the GT upgrade kit when you need to replace the chains.

Thanks for the info. I picked these up from a friend, made a huge difference on my old hobie that only had the v1 standard fins. Feel a bit spoiled now with my revo and kick up fins!

Before I moved over to my Hobie outback, I paddled a crescent lite tackle. it is a very capable boat, for the delta and the bay. I actually just had it out on the Sonoma coast last week, and had no problem even with slightly bigger than expected wind waves. It tracks and paddles well, no need for a rudder. A little heavier than expected for a paddle boat, but it is very sturdy feeling when paddling and standing. It is a very capable boat, which is now my backup kayak and duck hunting boat. Let you know if you have an more questions!

I use the same setup with a 401 cardiff, dropping anywhere from 4 to 8 oz of lead has been no problem up to 120 feet. The rod has handled everything I have thrown at it no problem. I would like to eventually pair it with a 301 tranx, but for now the cardiff does just fine. Something fun about fishing the ocean with Dobyns rods, I tend to find myself trolling halibut with my 805CB!

General Talk / Re: Liberty Island Access
« on: January 22, 2020, 07:37:45 AM »
So I read or skimmed the entire report. ALL public access to Shag slough via Liberty Island road will be eliminated it appears. They will be removing 9 sections of the levee. 300-600 foot sections  or more to let the water from Shag flow through. The new flooded area will be open to public use since it will be state land. The issue is that the closest access to the water for a kayak will be close to a mile walking, or trying to make your way through flooded grass land and vegetation, if that access is even allowed. The newly flooded area will be accessible legally by boat via Shag or Cache slough. The project is scheduled to start 6/20 with the breaches being made in early 2021. The low lying section of Liberty Island road before it climbs the levee at Shag will be raised to prevent water breaching northward. That will be closed to traffic at the point where Liberty Island roads turns east.
Thanks for the analysis. With the turn around spot they are making, they make no indication of even having places for people to park. I am sure once the construction is completed, that new road will be accompanied by No Parking signs. It will be a shame to lose almost all access to the North Delta unless you want to take a 30 minute boat ride.

Looking at the EIR for lookout slough, it looks like all access to liberty island road will be cut off, with no mitigation for the current access anglers and hunters have.

Safety First / Re: Toxic algae locations
« on: September 03, 2019, 06:31:13 AM »
There is an interactive map out there that shows bodies of water and the last date tested for this algae. Knowing what it looks like is your best bet when arriving to a body of water.

Correct me if I am wrong, but what difference does it make concerning winter vs summer run if they are all spawning at the same time? Seems like an excuse to restrict already restricted fishing.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Rod and reel for river stripers/salmon

Not as conventional, but I use a Dobyns 735 for Salmon, Striper and Black Bass. Paired with a curado it can do just about anything. Even thinking of using it for Halibut next year.
