Boat's an 07. This is a custom trolling rig that is super reinforced and has been tugged on with 40lbs set up. I love this rig

Liquid Fishing bait tank. Even when not using bait it's good for storage and rod holders

Humminbird 580 FF/GPS included, but not working. I think/hope it's a contact on the power button. Otherwise it's in excelent condition. Just haven't sent it in to be checked out. FF is RAM mounted in the "sail mast" hole

Hobie Kayaks / sailing rudder on Revolution
« on: September 13, 2008, 11:06:09 AM »
I have a flip and stow style and I'm having a hard time getting leverage to raise my sailing rudder. It's almost twice the surface area of the stock rudder and that even had a lot of resistance. It's at the point where my lever is bending when I engage it and that's without forward momentum which is even worse. Any retrofitting tips for this issue? Thanks in advance.

Dale -

The better side of me makes me want to believe he didn't see you. I carry a flare gun and have almost had to use it a few times when PB's were heading right at me. Kayaks aren't visible on radar also unless you have a radar reflector.

Scott

Like I said originally maybe I missed something like that, like he didn't see me,

The water was FAC, the visibility was at least a mile, my yak is orange, they changed course and headed straight for me for a few hundred yards, then changed again and headed back on their course after I moved off the reef.

With that said I have made assumptions about peoples (bad) intentions before and been completely wrong,  in the end it wasn't a big deal.  Had I not moved from where I was though it would have been much more interesting.

I know what you mean, but none the less if you file a report and this guy has a history then he should be taken off the water. Or even if this is a new game to him it should be on record. It sounds pretty intentional, but if it's not then it probably wont be happening often enought to get them in trouble.

General Talk / Re: new wheeleez wheels suck

It might be worth sending Wheeleez a link to this thread with your complaint letter. Maybe put a little spur in their arse.

I've only used mine a couple times and one wheel will not hold air although there are no visible holes or tears.  Kinda made that Elk hill rough, to say the least, (that, and the gallon of water inside my hull, but that's anothr story).

Try soapy water in a spray bottle and maybe even try spraying at the valve stem first. Mine came with a defective valve and that was the last spot that I checked.  If anyone knows how to fix those valves please let me know. I don't want to send them back and be without my wheels. Might just wait till winter.

General Talk / Re: Mirage Drive Lube
« on: July 30, 2008, 05:20:51 PM »
I had my last Hobie for about three years and I fresh watered it everytime and doused it in WD-40. I know a lot of people are anti WD because sand likes to stick to it, but my drive was in excelent condition when I sold that boat. Never had issues with build up of solvent or sand. I use my boat 2-3 times a week in the salt durring rockfish season, so it is getting plenty of use for a good test. Enjoy that beast.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Baro-trauma
« on: July 26, 2008, 11:36:32 AM »
I've tried all the techniques mentioned in this thread and have recently decided to keep any injured fish that I catch. I don't know for a complete fact that any technique works 100%, so I'd rather swallow my pride and end up with ten gophers in my bag and maybe I'll feel better about it in the long run. Fish big jigs and hope you get slammed. Sometimes the shrimp fly teaser is catching a lot of big reds, so you're bound to get some pinner fish with that too. And those really small ones that have eyes bigger than their stomachs make nice ling bait. I don't want to come off sounding righteous and preachy, I've left too many floaters in my own time, but it's the long term  that we're looking at here.

Great boat. Nice choice. If they gave you the hatch tackle box (cylinder) this is how I rigged my electronics. Simple, snugg, and dry. Also check out the RAM mounts that fit in the sail mast slot. Enjoy.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: need advice on a new paddle
« on: July 16, 2008, 06:13:18 PM »
thank you guys,
I am gonna look Victor up. He sounds like a cool guy and it sounds like he does a lot of paddling in the same areas I fish. I would like to have the chance to just try out different paddles and go from there. And, that is a major bennefit of shopping locally. Although, I am on a tight budget these days and it's tempting to go for product that is almost half off.
