Super fun day at Little River.   Launched at 0700, glassy in the cove, easy launch. Headed out to the LR Buoy then worked South.  Conditions outside were bigger swells and strong current running north.  I spent the first two hours running down my list of waypoints looking for fish without success.  I ended up fishing a shelf just south of some offshore kelp beds that held fish.  Got a quick limit of Rockfish (blacks) and a nice Cabezon (19 1/2”).   I had a couple of medium black rockfish get nailed by lings so I switched to live smelt.  I worked the uphill side of the shelf and got my Ling limit quick. Not many folks fishing, small group of yaks near me got some nice rockfish too.  Off the water at noon.  Good times.

That is inspiring. I like going camping in Mendocino and do some shore fishing. Next time I may bring my kayak. Thanks for the report.

Every time I’ve been there it’s been super nice inside.  The launch is very well protected to the north by the shape of the cove/topography. Once past the “LR”entrance buoy you’re in open water and can be much different than it looks inside.  Like anywhere on the coast, check the weather especially wind and swell before making the drive.
