We use those for phone lines... lol just solder n heat shrink it.

Done

I think a potential solution is to extend the battery storage compartment by 3D printing a larger battery storage area of the case that would mate in the same way with the current case. This would have the advantage of maintaining a water tight seal as well as keeping the current charging solution.

It’s been done already. No need to 3D print. And it’s waterproof w a gasket...remove the voltage protection board if you wanna go full gangsta .

Nice work NWM! Another thought as the charger plug connection is not water proof you might permanently goop it onto the SS body  and then put a waterproof disconnect between the plug and the battery.

Cheers,
Brad

Seems like a simple yet genius solution! Nice job NWM!  :smt003

So did it work?

My concern was that the charging electrodes might be wired into a charge-only circuit that disconnects normal ss function.

I suspect that the manufacturer says it cannot be rebuilt because the devices are made to be waterproof down to 100m or something like that. For our purposes, the ss won’t experience those water pressures while sitting in our boats, so I would bet you can just replace the battery and not dive with it — good to go. [emoji1360][emoji1360]

I'm wondering what kind of tool you used to loosen the bolts/nuts holding the parts of the case together -see pics.

You can order a security driver bit, or fabricate something similar. I have a set at work I’ll bring home to check on the size needed, and will report.

I was able to get the nuts off with just a regular flat-head--just wedge it in and tap with a hammer to get it started. I was surprised that the nuts were not tighter.

So did it work?

I didn't quite have it setup in time for my outing yesterday, but will try it next time out.

Here's the way that I've got it rigged. It's kind of hard to see, but the power cable (which connects to the charge port) comes thru the hull in the same place as the blue camelbak tube. The SS will go thru the scupper hole in the picture.

I cut the wires that go to the charge circuit and soldered them to the power leads--you can sort of see it in the picture in post #26 in this thread...

I was wondering if you could take a couple of pictures of your old SS battery pack if you don't mind.

Let me know if you need any more pictures.

Appreciate the battery pictures NWM.
So the battery is a 3s Lipo with 2ah capacity. Looks like your pack is 11 years old. It is 3 cells in series without balance charging. Other than the fact that it has a weird form factor, the 3s Lipo pack can easily be replaced. Perhaps there's enough space to put 3x 3600mah 18650 cells. That would make it 180% capacity of the original pack.

edited 9/10/21: Battery model is Sanyo UF103450P with 2ah capacity. It consists of 3 cells in series. It was hard to see, but the board probably doesn't have balance function, but has high/low voltage cutoff. (I think they could be replaced by LP103450. The difference is the UF has a rigid shell and the LP does not.) Since this SS is of version "A", it would be difficult to fit 18650 cells. Easiest way is to replace the pack with the same model LiPo cells, and reuse the BMS from the original pack. Not too difficult but takes time.

That would be great, as it would give more than enough run-time. Would charging be an issue?
