Alternatively, you can buy a new part from Hobie.

Funny enough, for some reason I immediately went to the extreme and just thought about buying a nice paddle kayak to simplify everything
Lol, i have this moments as well when I had to fix something with my Hobies.  Their parts are so expensive, its almost like a scam .....

Parts are pretty hard to get right now too.  I broke the right shaft on one of my drives last year and still can't find the replacement part.  CCK is out, I've called a bunch of other retailers.  No luck.

If you have the "old" style mast without the treads you can make your own out of stainless steel rods, cut to length and filed flat at the end for securing with the set screw.  Worked for me.  Haven't needed to replace a treaded mast but thought about treading a rod with a die.

Yer Hobie must be pre 2008 if you have the twistlocks, so the fin mast snapping on a V1 drive isn't that shocking.

Good point. I'm not sure why the newer style don't break as easily, but they seem to be much more robust.
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Someone has to have a 3D Scanner and Printer... all we need is a friend that can sand cast aluminum parts...possibly a machinist.
