« on: April 20, 2017, 07:40:10 AM »
Hey Everyone,

Eric Tebbets the owner of Pro Kayak Fishing and Central Coast Kayaks in Pismo Beach read about Steph situation and wanted to do something to help. He contacted me and asked if I'd like to set up a raffle for a Guided trip for 2 out of Pismo Beach area. So of course I said yes anything to help Steph.

www.prokayakfishing.com

Here's the details.

You are bidding on a guided kayak fishing trip for two, a $300-$400 value, from Central Coast Kayaks/PRO Kayak Fishing located in Pismo Beach, CA.

Whether you have your own kayak and gear or need to use some of ours, our experienced guides are happy to hit the water with you. The fishing in our local waters, along San Luis Obispo County, is usually very good with assorted rockfish, lingcod, cabezon, and perch being the most common species. Depending on your kayaking experience, fishing experience, and water conditions we can tailor trips along our coastline for beginners or advanced anglers.

What's included:

- 4 hour fishing trip

- Dept. of Fish & Wildlife licensed fishing guide

- outfitted fishing kayak

- rod and reel

- PFD (life jacket)

- bait & tackle

General Talk / #StephKillsit Kayak Raffle
« on: April 11, 2017, 10:29:18 AM »
StephKillsit, a NorCal Kayak Angler and all around badass, has had the unthinkable happen. About 2 weeks ago out of the blue Stephanie Lopez aka StepKillsit started having seizures to the point she has had to be completely sedated to stop them. She has been moved to UCSF and is under the best care possible. But still the Dr's have not been able to diagnose and treat the cause of the seizures. When they try to reduce the medication Steph's seizures immediately return.

The NorCal Kayak Anglers community is known for taking care of its own. After reading in more detail about what Steph has been going through it tore me up inside. The owners of California Canoe & Kayak (Keith Miller & Tammy Borichevsky) contacted asking them to donate a kayak to be raffled off for Steph. I got a call back quicker than I was expecting and I could hear the concern for Steph in Keith's voice. He told me that as soon as he and Tammy read my email there was no hesitation in their decision. So I will be picking up a new 2013 Hobie Quest 13 from the Rancho Cordova shop next week.

We will be raffling off this 2013 Hobie Quest13, and the tickets will cost $20 each.

All $$ raised will go to Steph and her family to help them through this terrible time in their life, and if there is any left over it will stay in the Pay It Forward (PIF) fund for future NCKA members in need. If you want to know more about the PIF, there are more details here:
http://www.norcalkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=64354.0

The drawing will take place on Saturday April 29, 2017 via live video on Facebook. The winner of the kayak will either need to pick up, coordinate pickup via "NCKA express", or pay for shipping.

Please, please, please if you have the ability to help buy a raffle ticket, make a donation, and share this as much as you can so we can make sure that during this time all Steph and her family's focus is on her health.  If nothing else please say a prayer or send healing thoughts to Steph.

Here is the link to buy raffle tickets or make a donation.

If you'd like to follow Stephs progress here is the link that is updated as more info is available.

THANK YOU for your donations, thoughts and prayers!!!

They are section 202 row 6. Not the best but the price is right.

Hope it was cool to put in PIF

Needless to say but I've struggled getting out on the water with all that I've been dealing with as of late. I sure hope my desire to fish comes back soon

Yesterday I got up early and was planning on doing some work on the garage and install new sounds speakers in the truck. Jump in and got the new speakers installed and it was already starting to get hot. So I look over and see the yaks hanging there all hot and dry. Next thing you know the yaks on top of the truck and I'm pulling out with no clear destination other than some high back country.

As I'm driving up I am thinking I'm gonna do a new lake. So I chose Weaver Lake as today's adventure. After a short stop to top off my thirsty ass truck I hit the dirt. As I was rounding bowman I see the road up to Weaver and it's no joke right from the start. Switch in lot 4-Lo and slowly start to climb. The trail eases up a bit but still 4x4 access only. I get up to what I believe is Weaver and see no trespassing signs and I'm like okay this sucks. So I turn around and head back down. Well I didn't do good enough map recon because that was McMurray Lake and Weaver just a little fatter out. But that's fine I will fish Weaver next week for sure.

After getting off the trail I head towards Sawmill/Faucherie. I ended at Faucherie and find some shade to take a nap for a couple of hours. While I was hoping for some peaceful sounds of nature the group campground sounded like they had a dance party going. After tuning out the blaring music I was able to get some rest.

I hit the water around 3:30 and 10 minutes into the troll I hook up and land a 13" brown. YES!!! I so need to feel the battle between us. I keep trolling and not long after I get another hook up that came off after a short battle. I ended up getting a total of 4 hook ups with just the one fish landed.

As I was nearing the end of my time on the water I went over to an island where a dad and two kids where camping. I had been watching the kids fishing on a canoe all day. I went by them earlier and they asked me if I had caught anything. I responded I had one and they excitement of me catching something in their voices was almost magical (instantly brought a smile to my face). So as I get to the island the kids are still out fishing and I ask the dad if they would like my trout. In disbelief he says the kids would love it. So I get close to the island and we introduce our self and I hand him the fish. I could tell that it meant a lot to him.

I head across the lake to load up and as I'm packing I hear two little voices yell across the lake "thank you so much" and right then I felt better.

After loading up it was a long drive out 4x4 by headlight is pretty exciting. Got home about 11pm and quickly passed out.

Hope you enjoyed the story and the pics.

- James

So I will be heading up Wed 8/3 and bouncing around the back country fishing 6-7 lakes. If you'd like to come up for the day or a couple of days here's my tentative plan.

So here's what I'm thinking.

8/3 Lyndsey Lake
8/4 am mt bike/hike kayak to Culbertson Lake
8/4 pm Weaver Lake (4x4 a must)
8/5 am French lake or Meadow Lake
8/6 ???
8/7 ??? Head home

Safety First / The sport claims another
« on: April 05, 2016, 11:56:05 AM »
This is so sad. Prayers to a fellow kayak angler and his family.

This is a very dangerous sport. Please, please, please take every precaution to keep you safe while on your kayaks. Use a buddy system and stay close enough to help each other, take classes to help you know how to react when things get out of control, practice annually or more frequently so you are always ready, know your abilities and plan for the worse, and this is one of the most important ALWAYS WEAR YOUR PFD!!!
