For Sale / Re: Kingfish Kayak

I'll drop the price QUITE A BIT if I can keep the Lowrance M689C for my next kayak.  I'll leave the transducer installed (and maybe even the mount).  I think I have a B&W fishfinder head that works with this transducer that I will put in it's place!!!  Could possibly substitute a paddle or cart for the GPS/Fishfinder and STILL DROP THE PRICE.  Have my eye on a Malibu kayak so catch me while I'm chomping to raise the funds to land my new (used) larger kayak!  Great beginner setup for the ocean or lakes!  Update-- installed an Eagle Cuda 168 in place of the higher priced Lowrance ......... First $400 takes it this weekend!

General Talk / Lifeproof Phone Case
« on: May 03, 2012, 04:04:49 PM »
These phone cases are great!  On the expensive side but well worth the investment to save a $400 iPhone  Just my 2 cents worth.  Waterproof (they claim to 6'), dustproof, drop proof (tested that one a few times as my wife has hurled my phone across the room at a stone wall) .... lifeproof!  They even make a bicycle mount that I could see possibly doubling as a paddle mount?  Going to get one to try it.  Most of us escape on our kayaks to get away from our phones but there are some great apps out there that can easily aide in a day on the water!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: downrigger on a paddle 'yak?
« on: May 03, 2012, 03:42:53 PM »
I'm running 2 Scotty rod holder mounted downriggers.  Works great in Salt & Fresh applications.  Mounted right behind my seat as to not come in the way of my paddle stroke and easily reached.  Others I've seen are mounted ahead of the stroke so they can see what's going on with their rod.  To each their own.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Which Brand F.F. Do You Use?
« on: May 03, 2012, 03:39:03 PM »
Currently running a Lowrance M68C GPS MAP/Fishfinder (color) but am switching to a Lowrance HDS-5 Gen 2 for this year.  Prefer the waterproof connector of the M68 & older Eagle stuff (size, waterproofness, etc) but the new stuff all uses the larger plugs.  Can't justify the cost of the Simrad 19" monitor with radar but it WOULD look cool as hell!

I work to fish.... among other things.  I'm a Designer/Project coordinator for an engineering/design firm located in Morgan Hill, CA.  We specialize in medical devices, automated systems and metrology.  There are a number of other facets to our design capabilities as well.  We manage "ideas" from concept to market release or anywhere in between using the latest in FEA analysis and development in SolidWorks.  I also develop my own items as a "hobby" using SolidWorks.  Have a product you need manufactured?  I have a few very select sources for CNC machining of parts in a varity of materials and finishes, including powdercoating & anodization.  My personal hobies extend into metalworking and woodworking.  Looking for soemthing custom but don't have the means to bring it to life?  I may be willing to barter my after-hours cservices in design/fabrication/assembly for kayak/fishing stuff!  Drop me a line!

Price range?  I'll know it when I exceed it....  I don't have an EXACT range for what I'm looking to spend.  I am not in the $1000 range, I know that for SURE.  Reasonable .... that's my range -- hence the reason to look used over new.  Not used & abused, just used.  Is that vague enough for everyone?

For Sale / WTB New (used) Fishing Kayak
« on: May 03, 2012, 11:49:19 AM »
Hello all...  Thought I'd drop a "want" ad in the mix.  Looking for a new (used) 13-15' SOT yak.  Selling my shorter fishing yak.  Have the funds available despite not selling my current one yet.  Thinking a Scupper Pro, Prowler, Trident or Tarpon.  Open to other suggestions.  Though my current yak is as stable as they come, I need more speed in exchange for some stability.  Mine has been a proven 1st fishing Kayak and is an absolute SOLID fishing platform!  [P.S.  If you are looking for a FULLY rigged kayak, my Kingfish is FOR SALE -- short list of details includes 5 removable scotty pole holders with flush mounts, flush ritchie compass, Lowrance M68C Color GPS Map/Fishfinder, all stainless hardware, deck bungees, lots of eye pads for attaching straps & crates, etc...  all nicely done with in-hull transducer)  Don't need (or really want) a fully rigged model.  Some light rigging on it is ok.  Like everyone else, I like to make it my own creation.  The sooner the better!  Located in the Monterey Bay area but willing to travel north to South San Francisco & as far inland as say Fresno/Stockton area.  Feel free to e-mail me at go_4_fish @ yahoo .com  Thanks & Tight Lines!  ~Bill
