Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Rod holder back packs?
« on: July 08, 2009, 04:35:40 PM »
I'm going to Hawaii in early October - one week in Maui and one week in Kuaui . From previous posts from others going to the Islands, I've gathered that your  fishing kayak options can be limited. I figure I'll have to take what I can get at the tourist / kayak rental places. I need something relatively light and portable that I can either slip over or attach to a kayak seat or somehow clip  to the kayak.
OK has a 2 rod, holder that goes over the seat and Apex has a pack with two rod holders that works with their seats. Has anyone used these? What do you think?  Any Ideas on something I can make that would work on a wide variety of kayaks? Remember it has to be light and portable. With clothes, a couple Telescopic rods, some lures, mask & snorkel and maybe a fishfinder I have to keep my suitcase weight under 50#s. Gotta leave room for souvenirs :smt003

General Fishing Tips / Re: Cheap Leadheads - Caution!
« on: July 08, 2009, 01:21:29 PM »
Thank you everyone for your support. As Darius said, it was a caution - so fellow NCKA members would not have the same experience.  I can't understand why he had a problem with honoring his advertised price, but that is his problem and his Karma. Let's not get too worked up over this. NCKA is about chillin', fishin' and makin' friends with common interests. If an internet salesman has trouble understanding principles of good business, let's not let it dampen our days.

FYI - to set the record straight, these were the emails I sent.

ME:
Hi
I bought your jigs based on recommendations through my group NCKA (Northern California Kayak Anglers)

What I got was 25 (I haven't taken them out to count) unpainted 4 OZ ? ball jigs and a package of 12 - 3 OZ painted squid jigs. your web page says, "packed in bags of 10" and directly under the picture it says. "Sold in Package of 25"
When I called (607) 936-0523, the gentleman in his car on the cell phone said, It was a mistake they are now sold in packages of 10 - that's why they are at that price.  I can understand about a mixup or someone failing to do his job and update the website, but from my perspective it was just a good price,- which is what induced me to buy them. It is the same as your buying an Eight cylinder car via the internet and when you receive a Four cylinder, you are told  - That's a typo.
I received 12 - 3 OZ Squid Jigs. I am still expecting 13 more.

HIM:
Please return the jigs I sent u For a refund. I explained this to u over the phone  So It may be best if u just return the items u are not happy with for a refund

ME:
I will keep the Jigs as it is not worth the cost of sending them back. I can use that money to buy lures from someone else. Unfortunately I will have to give you a negative review on our website. Hope you get that false advertising on your website fixed and I hope you get your packaging issues fixed, because I did receive 12 jigs when according to you I should have only received 10. That's a 20% loss on your side.

HIM:
No  I checked with Todd  and because we were late shipping the order He
added the 2 extra jigs to be a nice guy but some times nice guys finish last
And Please do spend your money else where .. And U will spend a hell of a
lot more of it  for some real shit import jigs.
As 4 the negative feed back U DID NOT but these thru eBay so there is
nothing to leave. U got a great deal

My general impression is that it was a mistake by their Web guy, But I believe they should honor their advertised price. The other odd thing is that I got 12 when they said they now come in 10's.  12 being about half of 25, I'd say they are still packaging for 25, which doesn't speak well for their shipping practices.

I bought some jigs through these guys. www. Jigsrigsandstuff.com The quality looks good but I want to caution people on purchases here. I bought 4OZ ball jigs that feel rather light for 4OZ. My problem was with the 3OZ Painted Squid head jigs I also bought. In big letters under the picture it said, SOLD in Packages of 25.  I only received 12. When I called and in an email response he (George Keller) said they were being sold in packages of 10, that's why it was such a good price. I made the analogy of purchasing an 8 cylinder car on the internet and only recieving a 4 cylinder, but that didn't work. He would not back his advertised product. He did offer a refund if I would ship them back, but I decided to keep them as it was not worth the time and cost  to ship lead back to the east coast.

I have a radio site there but haven't been for a while. as I remember, the beach is a bit rocky, but there is a small sandy beach on the south side of the point that might do. Just drive up to the hostel and check it out. As an idea, it would be great to rent one of the bunkrooms at the hostel and be able to just wke up step outside and launch

Type in -210 Pigeon Point Rd.  Pescadero, CA 94060 on google or yahoo maps for the Sat pics
