For Sale / Upright Freezer - SOLD
« on: November 17, 2015, 02:08:11 PM »
14+Cu Ft. Upright Freezer. About 3 years old.
We had to go bigger so we have this extra one.

30 "W - 32" D 5'6" ?? H
Energy Star, but I believe it's manual defrost. Only had to defrost it once, recently, and I think that was because we had too much stuff crammed into it and the air wasn't circulating.

Asking enough to cover the PG & E rebate.
$60 to an NCKA brother who needs a garage freezer.

You have to pick it up. Delivery not included
Located in Fremont

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Kokatat excellence
« on: June 26, 2015, 10:19:46 AM »
Sent my Drysuit in for wrist gasket replacement and general touchup. I had partly ripped a gasket when I first got it and was trying to stretch the wrists. It finally ripped all the way, a couple years later, at GS9.
I called them today as I had not heard from them and from others I knew that their turn around is usually quite fast. The tech said, it had failed the pressure test because it was "sweating" over some large areas. He said it, sweating, wasn't covered by warranty. He then called his manager while I waited. They approved giving me a new suit, Hydrus Supernova Angler,  as a warranty replacement. I got to choose the size and color. My suit was really baggy as, Headwaters had given me a good deal on a size that was larger than I needed. So now I get a tangerine suit (better for the PB's to spot me than my ocean blue suit) and a better fit.
I'm very happy with the way Kokatat stands by their product.  In a world were it's easy for people to knock companies they don't like, I think it's important that we let others know when we receive quality service from a quality company. ++++ MADE in the USA

General Fishing Tips / How deep am I ???
« on: April 24, 2015, 08:07:30 AM »
That always seems to be the question when trolling (without a downrigger) Whether using weights or a deep six, is there a table or tables  that can help someone trolling for salmon etc, tell how deep they are. People say, Oh, I was 40 pulls down. That's only so much help. A well known kayak fishermen once told me that the banana weight & flasher rig he gave me would be 30 ft down with 90 feet of line out. I don't remember if we were using 3 or 4 Oz banana weights.
So what I'm asking is, is there a chart or can we make a chart of how deep our bait or lure is using different weights.  At typical kayak trolling speeds, how deep can we expect to be with 80, 100, 120 etc, feet of line out  and 3 Oz, or 6 Oz, or 8 Oz etc of weight on. I think the Deep Six people have charts of expected depths with different size Deep Sixes and different lines sizes. That info would also be useful.
I wanna make sure I'm in the Chrome zone at Shelter

Fish Talk / Fish egg viability?
« on: March 11, 2015, 04:23:18 PM »
While reading the comments on the giant (38#) Brown Trout caught in Arkansas,. To counter those who were saying "what a shame to kill it", someone  wrote "funny thing about biology, in all creatures, the ability to reproduce effectively diminishes with age, bet that fish is near 18-19 years old (think 65-70 years old in human terms) hence its egg viability may approach 15%.....whereas a 5lb female egg viability is near 90% and produces more and healthier ".
On this site we talk about leaving the big ones because they produce the most eggs. We don't talk about viability. What do our experts say? Does this apply to some fish not others?

General Talk / Bogus parking citation Santa Cruz Harbor - UPDATE
« on: October 22, 2014, 06:50:32 PM »
I just received a notice for unpaid parking citation from the Santa Cruz Port District. I go WTF, I always pay for my parking there. There's a big kicker to all this, but I run through the more obvious so that you guys can give me feedback
It says - 405 Illegal Launch Ramp Parking. Not sure what they mean by this. Is it for not paying to launch my Kayak or for blocking the ramp with my car? The harbor people are usually pretty nice and they ask you to pay up if they think you are not going to. The time of citation is 11:25 AM  Obviously people aren't launching then. Would they ticket a car simply because it has a kayak rack on it?

All of this is just food for conversation, because here comes the kicker, the date is 09/25/14. Not only had I not fished Santa Cruz   since the Sept 7th Tourney, the 25th is a Thursday - a workday.
I can prove I worked in Redwood City that day. However this is a real hassle
Yes I'll call the harbor and contest the ticket with the processing Center. Just wondering if anyone else has had this happen to them

For Sale / 911 Dispatch Job
« on: August 15, 2014, 08:23:29 AM »
For any NCKA brother or sister looking for a good paying Job. I don't believe a college degree or any highly specific training is necessary. The ability to remain  calm, good listening skills and good typing skills are the primary requirements. No criminal background and must be drug free. I guess that with the improving economy it's getting harder to find dispatchers. Great benefits and lots of opportunities for overtime which could easily put you over the 100K mark
