I like the idea of a jacket with a built-in zip-in PFD, which model Gill is that?

It's a gill env 343. I'm not sure if they make them still, but its a fantastic Jacket.  Even has routing for a deck harness to be worn under.

... been sailing since before I could drive.

Thanks for the report and pictures. You ought to consider a Hobie AI...

Funny you mention that!  I was speaking with a gal at California Canoe and Kayak about that and sails in general, but between having to register another boat and adding complexion to my attempt at simplifying my watersports, I'm thinking ill stick with the paddle for now.  My arms really need some workouts too haha

Sweatpants, shoes, big jacket, no PFD.

Wait for it...
I think thats a wetsuit not sweatpants.  :smt002 But yeah no PFD come on. Should know better.

Ahhh, upon closer inspection...lol. OK, not nearly as bad but I'd still recommend a PFD (Perhaps there's one under your jacket?)

Guys this is a GILL Jacket with a Zip-IN PFD (meaning the PFD is part of the JAcket, but also removable and can be worn on its own)..... It keeps you warmer and keeps shit from getting caught on buckles. Please don't assume things; it's not very cool.  I was wearing a 3mm wetsuit, PFD, and Sailing Jacket.. New to kayaking but not the ocean. been sailing since before I could drive.

Haha. My apologies. Feel free to slap me if we ever meet.

All good. Just want to make sure im not written off immediately being that I'm new to this game.  Deffo committed to safety; ordering a plb this week actually.

First-time solo fishing on the yak so I wasn't expecting much, but after finding a nice drop-off, I managed to pretty well.  I got on the water at 7 and was off by 10 with 1 27" ling (having lost 2 more and run out of heavy tackle) and boating & releasing about 15 rockfish (copper, blacks, and olives) to 5lbs.  A little bit of wind chop but overall pretty darn calm all morning! Had a blast!

oh yeah. I need to buy a fish grip  :smt003

Where do you fish in the Central Coastal area and for what? I want to fish that area, but know nothing about the area and where to go. I live in the Central Valley, Clovis area. I spend my time fishing the lakes in the Shaver area.

Big Sur and Monterey areas are my go to, but they're on the northern end of the central coast. Lots of different fish to target and pretty accessible.

Caught 1 keeper Hali on 5/11 @ Alameda Rockwell. Gonna try to hit it again Sunday 5/19. After the weather blows out. Fingers crossed!

where does the wind usually come from out there? Im on the other side of the bay but have been interested in working my way out there eventually..

Hey everyone! I'm Christian and I'm graduating uni in St. Paul, MN in a week; so I bought a cheap little kayak back at home to get me around (Scrambler XT)!  I've been fishing for 15 years and fly fishing for 10 with my most recent focus being in the surf.  That said, I'm moving back to Redwood City and work across the street from the boat ramp at the port... Can't take that for granted!

Looking forward to learning a bunch from all of your posts and meeting members!
