General Talk / Open Faced Crab Sandwich!
« on: March 27, 2024, 12:33:11 PM »
Heyy…
Been nursing a minuscus repair and got the ok to snare for a bit …
So went to Cambell cove in Bodega on tues and had plenty of action early on but all were shorts , reds and dungie’s.
Was lucky to run into a buddy who gifted me a couple Dungies so We put them to good use, Fresh crab last nite and for lunch I tweeked my opened face Crab  sandwich recipe, Man I glad I did cause it was delicious!!!   The pics  say it all!  Pretty easy too

Took enough crab for a sandwich , added mayo,  graded cheddar cheese, salt and pepper, and 5-6 drops of Bachan’s BBQ sauce, mix it up and spread heavy on a ciabatta roll,  sprinkled  with Bacon Bits on top. Spray with avacado oil on both sides. Air fry 3 min @375* twice, Drizzle fresh lemon  after cooking! And enjoy :smt007
I used garlic earlier but omitted it this time because of the burnt garlic flavor  that can occur when air frying…
I might try it with diced shrimp sometime?
But with the crab, amazing!

My good old buddy, napajustin and I decided to “go take a look” at the ocean sat morning. , and am I glad I took his advice!
The forecast almost scared me off but it was such an easy launch and landing- so easy peasy! We got the wind at the end of our outing getting off the water around 2. We did have ‘on the ground fog”  we had to deal with for half the day , so that can be annoying but electronics!!!!!
Went  to my honey hole and immediately picked up two nice Browns and the rockfish started coming in. The Lings were a little selective on their bite.  Take downs, no sticks with  the Lings but the stringer started filling with rockfish. High tide was around 11 and the bite slow down for an hour or so, we both got our Lings with blacks  that were picked up along the way, Mine I went old school and took a 4 oz jig , thru the nose and the 8-9” Ling Candy was dropped in  100ft.
In a couple min I felt tug! At first I thought he just grabbed it so I gave him some light pressure and slowly brought him up,next thing you know he is in the net!!! yeah, I was happy !
Turns out he had a nice upper hook set in the top lip. I ended up with my Rockfish limit and one ling, Justin had His Ling limit, and almost Rockfish limit. We were lucky to experience a little different taste of nature. Yesterday we had a pilot whale or some type, find us interesting for about 10 minutes, he’s circled us, got real close, But was just checking us out…
he got so close. Justin could smell the puff of air that came out of his blow hole!  hot stinky, disgusting fish smell! thats close!!!ha ha ha probably 25 feet long. It was a cool experience. .
Fun times at the Fort

General Talk / Ain’t that the Shits
« on: July 12, 2023, 09:11:16 AM »
It’s that time again, us Sonoma Co folks getting ready for the Rockfish opener!  Been ready for 3 months now of extra wait time. Got My fav jigs packed already to drop.
Special Rockfish gear  bagged and tucked in the tackle box, even got a new special weapon to try out!
But Wait a minute, no, not what I think it is….
Ocean conditions are a bit sketchy for a kayak! Holy Crap! is this a repeat of last year? I remember last season missing some fishing dates cause of Big Blue  being its self!
Then there’s the what can u handle  or what is safe. That is an answer on a sliding scale. For me 6 ft is the cut off, naturally wave secs and wind are part of the equation but sat is looking a bit sketchy.
I’m seeing 4-7 ft @ 9-11 sec, wind under 10. A bit bumpy, and I’ve noticed Rockfish can be tight lipped when it rough.
Is that the area others are seeing?
I’ve been Jonsing to get my Ling on but ?? Not to mention it’s gonna be HOT on saturday and a day on the ocean is sooo needed, but.?…?
Other fishing options are there but at the moment I’m stuck on The LingCod!
Am I the only person thinking this way?

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Mushroom Mania Raffle Prize!!!
« on: January 24, 2023, 10:27:17 PM »
Hey NCKA, Scotty here,
Anout six months ago I just happen to be a real lucky guy. Yeah see I won a raffle prize at Albion. It was an introduction into the mushroom world, 4 quarts of dried mushrooms, books, gear, and a mushroom hunting adventure. Turns out the adventure was very bountiful!
Alot of you know Dylan is behind this and that dude is great !
A unique individual he is! Chef, mushroom hunter extraordinaire, and he knows so much about the mushroom world! He was a great tour guide as well, brought us in the forest,  explained a whole bunch of things before he let us go and throughout the day we ended up with over 5 pounds of black trumpet, Chantrel, Hedgehog, and yellow feet.
Ended the day with some Crab fresh from the Princess in Noyo and
sautéed mushrooms! Man that was good! :smt007
Ur not getting much Fishporn this time of year so I can only offer
Mushroom porn

General Talk / Wishin I was Fishin!!!
« on: December 31, 2022, 09:55:52 AM »
Well today is 12/31 and the last day to fish for Rock and Lings for a long time… If I can, I like the last day, to fish the Fort, kind of a tradition to end the season!
A couple weeks ago I had hoped to fish this day but Mother Nature had other plans. Don’t get me wrong I really like the rain , we need it so badly but 10 ft seas and 20mph+ winds are a bit more than   I can handle ( I’m not like Mr.X)
I guess I’m just whining a bit cause Middle of July is a long ass time to wait to get some Rockfish!
I bet I’m not the only who  feels this way cause that fish obsession/addiction is real!  With the shorter season next year it seems like a long time to ocean fish! Oh well…
I guess it with allow me to fish some freshwater and or other species.
Like 3MJ said, those poor Halibut are gonna get slammed next
spring/ summer!  Lol
Anyways  it’s winter….

Have a safe and Happy New Year NCKA!

General Talk / Air Fryer for rockfish?
« on: November 25, 2022, 10:44:32 AM »
I’m always looking for different ways to cook the fish I catch, and have recently picked up an air fryer.
My question is, has anybody cooked rockfish fillet’s in an air fryer?
How did it turn out and were you happy with the results?
Thanks

General Fishing Tips / What net u got?
« on: September 19, 2022, 10:50:38 PM »
I thought I had a pretty nice net, about 18 inches, the handle extended, and had the rubber netting.
About  two years ago I had a legal Ling on and then I got a big big hitchhiker Ling! and as it came up,  about 2 feet from the surface, it took that legal Ling and did the death roll and Spun and Spun and Spun!!!   that was so cool the witness that, that’s the excitement this sport brings us!
well she settled down and I brought them both over to the net. the first one went in and then big mama stuck her head in there and then opened her jaw and slithered back into the water  with a FU :smt005
It was right there that I knew I needed a bigger net!!!
I had a EGO about 18” , it was cool, you touch a button and  the handle gets longer!
What I have now is a Promar , about 24” , handle extends- no button.
I’m right handed so this is happening on the right side if the boat.
I have the net in my right hand , net in the water, handle extended a bit
I lead the fish with my left hand, over to where the net is waiting…
net comes straight up and he’s trapped! Game over  :smt003
I haven’t lost a fish in the net job since I got this , I know that day is coming but for now I haven’t.
So what  works for you?
In this case I’d have to say bigger is better!!!

General Talk / Have You ever seen one of these?
« on: March 02, 2022, 10:07:12 PM »
I know this old guy who gives me fishing related stuff  once in a while,
and gave me this old  TR-Sonic VII. I was like WTF?
Turns out my friend got this from his Uncle who bought it
in the 70’s?? for $25.
I think it’s never been used??? Has a little light that comes on and makes a squeaky noise.  might work? The 32 page book is halarious!
It has instructions, tips, knots, and alls sorts of trippy stuff! I’m guessing the 70’s but not sure.  Even comes with dried blood pellets as an attractive  for bigger catches!  sorry abuthose pics
Wondering if anyone in NCKAland has ever seen this? and got info
on it?
thanks

General Talk / Spring Lake isn’t looking so good…
« on: February 13, 2022, 10:02:57 PM »
Took Gemma, our lab for a walk around Spring Lake in Santa Rosa, midday was beautiful but man the lake is about  80-90% covered in Duck weed? I was there last summer and it wasn’t nearly as bad.
Walking around the lake I was wondering what the hell can you do with this shit!? This may sound stupid but could you harvest it and feed it to livestock? Compost? SOL!
I’ve caught some nice bass in there years ago but now it’s not worth it,
the yak gets all messed up!
Any solutions?
