Have shore-based anglers been catching much Rockfish up there this month? Lings?  Might be a fun road/fishing trip with a non-kayaking friend...

I don't believe fishing for rockfish and lings from shore it's very productive using conventional fishing gear (pole, reel, hook and line). You will probably do better off poke-polling. Look for a low tide, find a rocky shore and you're in business.

regardless, rock fish fishing opens July 1st...so sharpen those hoohs and get ready.
Adios!

Paddled out off Noyo in my scupper pro, into the fog at 9 AM with my buddy on his scrambler. When we were heading out boats already were coming in... High hopes materialized into a SkonK. Trolled an Apex for 3 hous + for nada... never found the fleet.  To get rid of the skonk we grabbed our dive gear and paddled out to the south point. Viz was 20+ ft. plenty of fish and abs. Got a couple of blacks and blues for dinner...if can't catch'em we'll shoot'em  !
Touned out to be a great day after all. Adios !

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Re: 40 ft. vis

Wednesday's 40 ft viz turned out to be 15-20 ft by Thursday afternoon at Salt Point north of the reserve.
Did see a couple of lings, no monsters so I let them be. Got a black and some urchin for dinner.
On Friday I paddled out of Ft. Ross in thick fog towards the reef. I made it as far as the two rocks on the south cove and dove there 'cause I couldn't see nada but fog. Swell picked up and viz dropped to 10-15ft - still nice. It was all fogged-up (not a typo) until about 1 PM. It was surgy when the sets rolled in. I had the ocean to myself. Got some fish including two lings, couple more blacks and blues. Funny thing is the urchins at Salt Point were great the ones at Ft Ross dad hardly a sliver of roe - go figure.
Adios!

Kayaks / Kayak Seat
« on: May 15, 2006, 07:38:54 PM »
Looking for reccomendations on kayak seats for a Scupper Pro. I mostly dive off my kayak but whenever I fish or paddle a lot I wish I had a better seat. I only have an OK soft backrest.
Thanks!
