I am looking to hit the delta next Monday. I have not fished this year due to the fact I am working 2 jobs. Are there Stripers anywhere? What my best bet for getting some fish?? We usually hit the Tuolumne , but it would be almost certain DEATH right now!!  Is the Delta also blown out??  Any comments or help is truly appreciated!!!!!!!!!! Thanks!!!!!!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Stanislaus River
« on: June 09, 2010, 07:49:31 PM »
Did a short trip to the Stanislaus. Launched at The park, paddled upstream and fished as we floated downstream. We were throwing spinners and worms at downed trees and grass to the sides with no luck. Notices some fish hitting topwater so I put on a rapala and 1st cast got a hit. Threw by the bank to a downed tree and as it went over the tree got a sweet hit and it took off like a smallie, I was shocked when i got it to my yak and it was a squaw fish. Does anyone know what this actaully is? I have always called them Squaw Fish but it looks like some kind of carp. Had a great time only went out for an hour and it was by friends 1st time kayak fishing. River was low unlike the Tuolumne which is still to high to float down. Great to get out!!!!!!

General Talk / Delta to Berkeley?? I need help!!!!
« on: May 19, 2010, 07:22:52 PM »
I am thinking of doing a trip from La Grange to Berkeley via the Tuolumne river, Delta, Suisun Bay, San Pablo Bay, San Francisco Bay.It will be a total of about 170 miles or 19 miles per day. The river part is no problem. Are the bays doable on a sit on top? If I stick to the outgoing tides and slack tides, and sleep or fish on the incoming tides, does this seem doable?? It will be a 9 day trip at the end of June. Tips, opinions suggestions will be appreciated. I am open to just doing La Grange to the Delta if the bays are deemed to dangerous, but I do have a kitchen pass for this trip and my wife says sounds like a great trip for me!!

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / ocean reel???
« on: January 29, 2010, 02:02:15 PM »
I have a Shimano soc-70MH line weight 20-40 lbs and a Daiwa Sealine SL-23 line wt 15-30 and lure wt 2-6 oz's. Both rods are 7 ft. the Daiwa is and older fiberglass rod. Is this rod gonna be too much of a beast??I would like to use these rods for Lings. I am thinking about a Penn levelwind or an Abu 7001i. Any suggestions for a reel for these poles. Also, can you run braid on these with mono leader?? What would you guys do??
Thanks for any suggestions!!!!!

Love my rack, we went down to Morro Bay to work on a house and the Toyota pulled thru for me again. I haul all kinds of stufff on my yak rack from plywood to furniture to ladders. This Camry used to be our family car, tilll my wife got a new car. Now I can use it properly to haul stuff around and take my self to exotic fishing places!!!!!!

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Merced River
« on: December 22, 2009, 10:50:09 PM »
Looking to do a trip somewhere between Mc Swain and Schafer Bridge. Anyone have any experience on this section. Maybe launch near Snelling , there are 2 different bridges that cross before you hit Schafer Bridge. Maybe make it a 2 day trip?? On these rivers you can spend 8 hours fishing a half mile of river, gotta pick and choose fishing spots and be aware of time constraints. I am trying to plan ahead, I would be doing this trip in the summer. I think in the Snelling area there would be more trout than anything else, but as you got closer to the Bridge more LM and SM. Anyone interested?? Also anyone have any Info on this section of the river??
Thanks!!

General Talk / kidney stone
« on: December 14, 2009, 11:36:21 PM »
My second stone in 6 months, by far my worse one yet. got to the ER Saturday morning at 7:09 am in triage by 7:12 am. and in a bed and IV started in the next 5 minutes. Was vomiting because of pain , but then got the Toradol on board and things went much smoother. Still have not passed the stone!!! Nights are the worst 2 Vicodin and 3 to 4 hours of sleep.Between Vicodin, ibuprofen and heating pad pain is much more manageable.  I have been reading on the internet and blame consumption of to may sodas for my excessive kidney stones , 1 about every 18 months. I am hoping with a few changes in diet to be gout and kidney stone free!!!!!!!!!!  Also Hats off the the crew at the Oakdale Hospital ER!!!!!!!
