Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / PICASSO wetsuit info request
« on: April 19, 2009, 10:02:36 PM »
Hey fellow abalone/fish hunters,

Looking to get a new wetsuit for ab diving and have been looking at the Picasso wetsuits. Not rich, but will put the money out if the Picasso's are as advertised.  Is the newfangled japanese neoprene really that flexible and supple? How about fit? Based on my dimensions,(5' 7" 175 lbs-athletic build)size chart calls for a ML.

Also, which model to get. Do you actually stay dry in this suit? Lastly, should I go with a 5 mm or 7 mm. Will be diving cold waters of Northern CA. Any feedback from Picasso owners, former or present, would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

SRJ

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Searching for giant abs
« on: April 07, 2009, 04:55:48 PM »
Hello all,

new to the site and time to quit lurking. Planning on taking my new Ocean Kayak 13 out for it's maiden ocean voyage tomorrow to Shell Beach to look for giant abalone.  Weather forcast looks as good as I've seen for awhile. Does anyone have any advice on the layout there? Haven't dove it before. Wanting to make this year THE year I find my first 10" abalone and have heard Shell Beach is one spot to check out. I live thirty minutes from there and thought I'd spend some time learning the spot if it really is a place for giants. Any and all comments or help are appreciated. Realize 10" abs are RARE, but don't want to waste time diving spots that don't produce them.  Am very proud of my personal best 9 3/4", but it's not a 10. Also realize that folks generally don't divulge spots where the giants live.  Also looking for information on Trinidad for giant abs. Know there are some isolated pockets there that have them, just don't know the precise locations to begin searching.  Thanks in advance,

SRJ
