General Talk / Feedback on Revo
« on: April 28, 2022, 06:44:56 PM »
Wondering if anyone has experience with the Abu Garcia revo or the quantum accurist? I'm looking for something around $100 that I could use for 1-3 Oz swimbaits and jigs. For cod/halibut fishing.

Dont feed it to your kid. I only eat it twice a month. I'm no marine biologist but the dfg says it's pretty polluted so I go with that.

I saw one of those dead on the beach last November at stillwater north. And supposedly 15 of them washed up on beaches around Cruz last month

Safety First / Re: 8 foot swell to big for the kayak?
« on: April 10, 2018, 11:48:57 AM »
No secondary swell. Just a groundswell. Wind is supposed to be same direction as the swell. Im so anxious to catch some fish but i think im gonna sit this weekend out. I think your right about the big swell turning off the bite. Most times I go out in a big swell and don't catch fish I regret it. Good luck to any of guys that do go out. Hopefully the forecast is wrong.

Safety First / 8 foot swell to big for the kayak?
« on: April 10, 2018, 08:00:27 AM »
Checking the weather for sonoma coast this weekend and it's calling for 8' swell @13 sec. Wind forecast is less than 5kts before noon. I launch in a protected cove so getting in and out is no big deal. What's your thought on padding in these conditions?  I'm not an expert but I've been kayaking the ocean for the past 6 years. Last time Iwas out in 6 foot swells with no wind and it was very manageable.

General Talk / Re: Fort Ross or Stillwater cove for day use
« on: August 19, 2016, 09:38:50 PM »
Thanks for all the input guys! Ended up going to ocean cove. The guy at the store there was super nice. Had the beach all to ourselves and there was a good bit of trail to walk around and check out. Fishing was tuff cause low tide and my first time there but there sure is a lot of snaggy bottom. I fished along the right point all the way out to the end in mostly 50' of water. Fishing metal jigs Got 2 rockfish that were pretty Decent. And a 26" ling that chomped on a baby rockfish that had bit my shrimp fly. Id def go back but I didn't have wheels for my kayak and I didn't want to test my car on that ramp so I hiked my boat up and down.

Looking to head up to either fort Ross or Stillwater for the afternoon. My girlfriend wants to come spend the day in the beach with the dogs also. Does anybody have any preference between the two spots for taking dogs and chillin on the beach?

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: What rod and reel do you use?
« on: August 05, 2016, 12:42:25 PM »
I like my 7' seeker American series rated for 20-30# with a Penn 525. You can use that rod in a downrigger, you can mooch it, use it for live bait or bottom fishing with up to 6oz of weight.
