Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Re: ARW - 4/12
« on: April 13, 2009, 10:49:16 PM »
I was also out there on Sunday too. It was a good for most of the morning but the bite came in the afternoon when the tides turned. Hooked up with two butts. One broke off and took the line...ate the whole bait!

The second butt made a couple of runs on me...about a 25-26 Incher. Reeled it to the top and netted it, only to have it jump "OUT" of the net and dash away! :smt010.... Came home empty handed...I need a bigger net?!*** Hit both of a frozen herring behind a white hoochie. Good weekend, now I gotta just get the job done. :smt009

Sorry for the really late post.  I don't frequently post, but I know that I should do it more often. I guess that I can be deemed a semi-lurker!  :smt044

Last saturday was an amazing weekend.  Arrived a 8am to clear glass water on the bay with lots of bait fish jumping around.  There were a ton of boats trolling for halibut. NCKA was well represented. Landed the halibut at around 12:00pm after 4 hours on the water.
It was a quick slamoo! on my rod. I thought that I hit a rock or snagged some debris on the bottom.  I took a couple of turns on the rod before Mr. Hali made a couple of runs on me. Got him on the boat after a couple runs and noticed that the hook was barley hanging from his mouth. Once in the net -- Whammo! lights out....game over.

Over all it was a great day on the water.  See the pics below.

Fished last Saturday at Capitola. OTW around 7:00am. By 10:00 had my first copper. By 10:15 me and another kayaker found the honey hole. Water was calm and glassy,  and the sun was just breaking through the early morning fog.

Pulled up 5 more good sized copper in the kelp directly right of the pier on a copper/gold swim bait laced with squid. Had another 3 lb grass cod. Total 7 fish by 11:00am. Off the water by 11:30. It seems like the fishing in Capitola is better then SC. I'm still looking for my first Ling of the season.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Shimano Trevala rods

Jay,

$99 is expensive for a rod. I've looked all over the internet for a lower price as well, but I think that is the set price.
I bought the rod and have no complaints. It works great! You get what you pay for.

yeah, blake was killing it. We all went for 3 hours on nice water with a handful of bites. Afternoon winds picked up.  It was super cold out today, even though the sun was out...a little. Blake's ling was the winner of the day!

After we took the pictures, we yelled that we threw the ling back (Catch and Release) when he was in the john. I never saw a guy run out so fast from the bathroom with zipper half up.  :smt044 Think Alex was suppose to post. Good day and good company! See you on the water.

I'm thinking about making my way to the cove on Friday morning. Took off sometime for the opener. I'll be coming from San Jose Friday morning around 4-5am. Never fished this area before and company will be welcomed!  I'll bring the beer!!  I'll be on ch69  :smt006

I though the regulation said that the 2008 rockcod season started May 1

2008 ROCKFISHING SEASON OPENS MAY 1 BELOW PIGEON POINT. I read the DFG 2008 regulation and it said the same thing? June 1 is for fishing north of pigeon point.
May 1 for south of PP. Maybe I'm missing something?

you can also try a basic diamond jig with a piece of squid on the hook, then jig it back and forth around the rocks. Live bait works best, but i haven't heard about any anchovies at the marina yet. You can also try for smelt out in the ocean and throw a live one down for a ling. Good luck!

Having a beer in your hand is always a good ice breaker. I'm gonna post my first pictures and report up as soon as I get some fish! :smt010

Great job! and keep the lines tight

Marvin,

Good place to fish right now as the buts are coming in the Berkley Flats, Oyster Point and Candlestick. I got a couple shakers last week and one that took my line but broke off.  :smt010

The word is a dodger trailed by a frozen herring works well. I might be out there if weather permits this weekend.

hey Johlee,

I've heard about crabs in SC but never caught one out there. I usually go to the pier in Pacifica near San Francisco. One of these days, I'll try SC and let you know.  I want to give the buts in SC a chance when the weather lets up.

Any advice on good places for buts in SC guys?? :smt006

Does anyone know where go get marine goop around the bay area? Are there any hardware store that might carry it? Thanks

The reports on Noaa looks like there's a pick up on wind on Sunday. Gonna play it safe and wait till Monday and check again. Got a three day holiday this weekend, and want to get out on the water. I might be out on Monday if anyone is free.

I'll go out on Sunday, but will need to check the forecast Saturday night.
