General Talk / Fillet knife suggestions
« on: January 01, 2018, 03:27:16 PM »
Im in the market for a decent fillet knife that is flimsy, not too expensive but works pretty good. There are way too many options out there from $7 on up. So I'm gonna try and simplify it and see what suggestions you all have. My budget is $35-$40. I'm sure there are decent ones out there for that price range.

For Sale / 2016 Hobie Outback For Sale!
« on: December 19, 2017, 12:48:11 PM »
So I just bought this Outback from John, Yakhopper's buddy (the post is still viewable) about a week and a half ago.
I've been looking forward to finally finding a great deal on a pedal kayak, Outback to be exact, and finally did.
I took it out for the first time yesterday and I have to say, I'm not impressed. Other than the pedal feature, IMO, there are other kayaks out there that fit me best.
My mistake was not testing a kayak or going for a demo to find one that suits me.
I'm not knocking you folks with Outbacks because there are more of those on the water than my Malibu Stealth 12 but...its just not for me.
I paid $2000 for it. I'm not willing to take more than a $200 loss on it. $1800 and its yours.

2016 Hobie Outback
Comes with;
Bending Branches
 (230 Angler Classic Paddle)
Garmin Striker 5
Scotty Rod Holder
Ram Tube 2008
Richie compass
  (Installed on front hatch lid)
Aqua-Bound BilgeMaster
 (High Volume Pump)
Upgraded Rudder
Comes with ST Fins
 (Not Turbo)

PM me if you are interested. pick-up in Daly City please.
thanks
Jeff

I've had it for just this season and its been a real blast to have.
Thought I'd be a little different and go with the new Jackson Coosa FD.
I know its pretty new but has anybody seen it, know somebody that has it?
Any info or leads is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff

General Talk / Stripers with the kiddos
« on: November 06, 2017, 06:38:12 AM »
As much as I wanted to join the dungie frenzy with the rest of you along the coast, I decided to hang out with my kids on the banks of Carquinez Straits. They’ve been asking me to take them fishing and this past weekend’s forecast and tides (not too early or late) catered to their desires. Im glad I took them.  Both reeled in keepers at  20” and 21”. Their faces filled with excitement and adrenaline was priceless.
I hope when I’m gone they’ll put my gear to use..

General Talk / King City Hog Hunt
« on: November 03, 2017, 10:23:56 AM »
Here’s a couple pics from my recent hog hunt trip in King City. This one was a guided trip this time.
It was more of a trespass fee but I know what I’m doing. It was fun. Bagged two nice hogs on the run. One from about 150 yards trekking parallel on a mountain side. And from 75 yards in a canyon. Howa 1500 30-06 paired with a Nikon Buckmaster 3-9x40. It’s never failed me.

General Talk / Net or gaff?
« on: October 25, 2017, 01:38:10 PM »
I thought I’d start the discussion just to see if this is only me. So...
I have a net and gaff. Why do I even bring my gaff? I only use my net...big fish, grab the net. Small fish, well, no need for net or gaff. Just grab the leader and handline it in.

Does anybody tend to do the same thing?
Who frequently uses gaff? Pro, cons? Input on this is greatly appreciated.

General Talk / Crab Gear for sale on CL!!
« on: October 12, 2017, 06:46:28 AM »

Anybody wanna go in on the traps, rings, jars snd rope with me? Im sure we can swindle a way better deal if we take all or most or it. PM  me if so. I’m scheduled to meet this guy on Saturday unless it sells. But I’m pretty sure it will be available. Gus’ Bait Shop sells this stuff for at a competitive price. But we can use that as leverage!

General Talk / Timber Cove Today
« on: September 02, 2017, 10:08:21 PM »
Weather, water and wind couldnt have been better. Wherever I paddled I drifted almost nowhere.
When I launched, I paddled. around the first bend to the right and dropped my 3 oz jighead  90 ft just to enjoy the view and decide where  I'd go (not expecting to catch anything) and bam! First drop and 28" green ling...it's gonna be a good day. Caught 4 total today. Released the last 2 of course. I probably should add that most fish were spitting up multiple octopus when I got them on my yak.I used them to put onto the hooks and got lots of action, almost immediately.

General Talk / Ocean Cove or Timber Cove this Friday
« on: August 30, 2017, 08:47:48 AM »
Hey all. My buddy and I had planned to fish Timber Cove or Ocean Cove this Friday and Saturday. Plans changed a bit for Friday and he can't make it. I promised myself and my family that I wouldn't go out alone until they said I could. I plan to keep my promise on that. (Although I feel comfortable and confident. But still..)
Anybody care to link up at Timber Cove or Ocean Cove Friday?
Thanks!

General Talk / Hog hunt
« on: August 21, 2017, 07:49:49 AM »
Went on a hog hunt near Fort Hunter Liggett on Friday. I lucked out and got 2. It was perfect. I stumbled on a small spring at about 6 PM and saw 4 hogs getting their drink before sundown. The wind was coming to me and I was able to get within 150 yard to get a nice shot. I waited until the biggest one turned to get a perfect shot. And BAM!! The other one ran up a hill but I decided to chamber another and take a shot and got him too. He was a nice 125 lb meat hog. The bigger one was about 250 lbs. lucky me..

General Talk / 31" and 24" ling today
« on: May 28, 2017, 05:18:42 PM »
Caught these today at Ocean Cove. Was jigging a 6 oz. red shad jighead (that I got from this site, of course) on a red 10" plastic.  They couldnt resist. Only fished a good solid 2 hours. Its good fishing up there right now!
