I troll the river a lot for salmon each year. I always try to troll with with the incoming and against the outgoing. I bounce to be 24" off the bottom with spinners. Jigging can also be very productive but with my pilot house I need windless days which are rare on the delta.

I went with Makairas on a Chark Bait special last winter. Watching the reports is driving me nuts while work schedule and family health issues keep me at home.

I rigged up 2 maikaras for trollers. Hoping to find 2 fathom 60s at reasonable prices to round out the gear. I have a bunch of sardines frozen for chum and if lucky can fill the live well with macs or sardines.

I've got a friend that just retired and moved to SA but he's down in Jeffery's Bay. It is like 14 hours south of Durban so I'm not sure he can do much but I can put you in touch.
