I thought you said strippers

FYI This morning there were at least a dozen Squid boats dragging nets between the Aquarium and the point

Does that mean the halibut have new ground to explore?

This shows not kicking on until 11am.
Early launch, early in. Couple hours for halibut, then if nothing else hit the kelp for taco meat.
Launch 6 CG pier

Hookups and Fishing Reports (Viewable by Public) / Halibut Monterey

Thinking about Thursday, wind looks good. Fish off the cannery, for Halibut. The more the merrier. Or if anyone has any fishing report for Halibut in Monterey that isn't the hotel, I would love to hear them.
Thanks all

General Fishing Tips / Re: Best Fish Finder for Trident 13
« on: April 27, 2020, 11:58:48 AM »
I have the trident 13, and use a Humminbird, mostly because the scupper transducer. I have a cheap lowrance hook 1, on my other yak, and the transducer is set up for through hull. Both work great. Slight edge to the humminbird. My opinion.

The last few day there has been a large fleet of boats off of Pacific Grove. Anyone know what they are catching, doesn't look like squid?

Thanks

If its not sanded in like it has been most this year it would be fun to try. Most likely you will have to portage in-between the river and the ocean. Now that I think about it isn't the sand plant miles and miles from the mouth of the Salinas river ?
Its a bit of a trek, but I think its a better shot than paddling from monterey. I haven't found a viable beach launch near there. Its all really steep right now.

I am thinking about floating the Salinas River out the mouth and around to the Sand Plant. Has anyone done this? Any good launch spots? Am I crazy?? Thanks

Safety First / Re: 8 foot swell to big for the kayak?
« on: April 10, 2018, 08:48:11 AM »
It all depends on exactly where you are. 13 sec, is a lot of water, so if it has to come up a steep shelf then its ugly, if you are in the flats fishing intermittent structure then its just a bit rollie. Makes jigging easy though. Its all about your comfort level. Always take all of your safety gear, plan for submersion and plan your fish and fish your plan. Communicate your intentions with someone who isnt afraid of calling the Coast Guard

Fish Talk / Re: Is it time to reduce Rockfish limits?

I am fortunate to live close to the ocean. I dont freeze my catch unless its worth it, (halibut, wsb, salmon) I brought home one Blue RF last tuesday. It had bad Barotrauma, so I was obligated to keep it. It fed my family. The California fisheries and game can not support over harvesting. If you are gonna live off of it you are in the wrong state, there are too many people takng more than their share of fish and game. My 2 cents is lower it, or just make it harder with sublimits. No more than 3 of any type. Just an idea.

Or maybe adjust the sights on Big Jim's spear gun. :smt044 :smt044
