Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / abalone sunday the 19th timber cove
« on: April 21, 2015, 01:15:54 PM »
did a quick ab run up to TC with geoff(alameda). water was flat but with a big surge  and viz was hazy at about 5 feet or so which is good enough for ab diving. the abs were small but i did manage to find a good sized scallop! video  note : while i do tease geoff about his seasickness but it never stops him from finding the biggest abs or shooting the fat fish. he fights through that shit and always impresses back at the beach.

« on: May 26, 2013, 11:29:13 AM »
i dont know any details about how or why but regardless its always a reminder to always play it safe and understand conditions , use proper safety equipment and have a plan in case you go in. it was pretty windy that day and there were some strong currents.

Kayak Diving and Spearfishing / Freedive shop in concord!!
« on: April 19, 2013, 05:42:07 PM »
i just checked out "kelis ocean sports" in concord and i think its super cool to have a dive shop that sells spearguns , wetsuits , masks ect. right in my area. just throwing it out there for those that live nearby that theres a good selection of equipment just in concord that sells strictly for free divers.
i picked up some neoprene glue , new snorkel , & some new freedive socks. nice peeps too!

General Fishing Tips / Sturgeon baits: Lamprey Eel rigging VID
« on: January 28, 2013, 08:57:20 PM »
heres an attractive way to rig lamprey eel , a local river rat showed me this technique , it keeps the bait stationary and the slices help expel the oils while the bait soaks. it also leaves more room for hook penetration into the sturgeons tough leathery mouth. the cool thing about using lamprey eel is that you get alot of bang for your buck , while a 20 dollar eel might seem a little steep , its actually a bargain...just one slice off the eel will last at least half the day on a hook , its very tough flesh and its very oily  ,even when the diaper stripers are pecking at it it stays intact. you can even pull the bait off your hook at the end of the day and put t back in the bag , freeze it and when you defrost it again later down the road its still tough and oily. I compare this with buying a 1/2#  of grass shrimp at 14 dollars every trip which ends up mostly getting  tossed at the end of the day due to it not being reusable . a 16 to 20$ eel can last for months & longer.

heres a little video i did out of boredom , the original plan was to catch a HOGG but that didnt happen so all i had was this.
