At least this guy can swim. Also like that he travels light. One of the kayak locals at Muir used to get his dinner with one rod one lure and that was it

A closed deck yak… must’ve been exciting

I wonder if he still wants it

Not sure I would

General Talk / Re: Monterey Fish Sales Off The Dock
« on: September 06, 2023, 06:20:37 PM »
If I am not mistaken, this is a small scale commercial fisherman catching halibut, no limit on his catch and selling it locally. So this does effect the recreational kayak fishermen who are limited to two. I think this is an example of what I have said in past post that these regulations are set up to save the commercial fishing industry and not the fish stock.

Sorry gotta call bullshit on that one

Guitarzan!

I was just wondering into what part of the usa you might have disappeared into Hopefully a fun one

Clayman where is the resistance to making descenders mandatory in CA coming from? Not doubting what you’re saying I just haven’t seen it anywhere

Off topic a little but call this a hypothetical

If 3 scientists are hired to do stock assessments say for canary rf; 2 conclude the stocks are healthy, 1 that the stocks are in peril

Which one should CDFW go with for a decision about closures etc?

37
I get the general drift of the 2021 assessment, what I’m more curious about is specifically how those numbers were arrived at, for instance what came from actual counts vs what were guesstimates/models etc, then beyond that how it all factored into a decision(-making process) like the one we got

Science should be immune to ideology but it’s not always the case

The 2021 quillback assessment may be totally legit

There have been prior stock assessments that weren’t, and similar management decisions that followed

38
The 2021 quillback stock assessment that has got us to the closure of all inshore fishing

https://apps-st.fisheries.noaa.gov/sis/docServlet?fileAction=download&fileId=8290

Maybe somebody can unpack it and translate into plain English the relevance of its parts for some of us lesser mortals

I got part way through it without going comatose but it was a close one

For Sale / Dupray Hill Injection Steam Cleaner $1k obo
« on: August 24, 2023, 01:29:53 PM »
This:

https://dupray.com/products/hill-injection-steam-cleaner

I bought it a few years ago and used it to detail a car I sold, cleaned up a couple of old bicycles, cleaned up tile grout and that’s about it

It’s a cut above the household version and could be a tool for business like car detailing or ?

Main advantages of this one are 345 degree temp and you can fill it on the fly without turning it off and waiting for it to cool down. Also has a tank for detergent which I’ve never used

It’s in near new shape, I’m in OG mode and unloading a lot of things. Kayaks may be next

PM if interested

Glad he made it back safely and I hope they find his yak!  That said, why do they have to publish this in the news where my wife will read this!!!??? :smt011 :smt013 :smt013

My wife might be happy if I started paddling the sharky zones again

Win-win for her, lots of fresh fish or one less og to feed

The water tends to get murky really fast in ncka discussions

There are a couple of fisheries science people who could shed some light on all of this. Clayman comes to mind and some others i can’t think of at the moment

There are also some heavier hitters but that would be a start

Safety First / Re: NRS farmer John wetsuit rash
« on: August 17, 2023, 09:28:02 PM »
It looks more infectious than allergic. MRSA is now endemic so ask them to culture it and dont take no for an answer. My situation was VRSA which went on for a couple of years of misery and ended in near sepsis in the ER and gruesome emergency surgery Original rash was very similar to yours

Out of consideration for my fellow steak lovers I won’t post pics

Bottom line is take it very seriously

For Sale / Re: Hobie Tandem Island 2012
« on: July 31, 2023, 08:44:31 PM »
Sorry I missed this one

Just came from northeast CA a friend has an AI for $3k in really good shape, I think about the same vintage as this Used a dozen times on freshwater and stored in their garage

I was tempted but pretty sure we would need a tandem for an old fat guy and a 16 yo kid who is 6’2

The NRS suits are great I’ve had mine since sometime in the 90s and no fails anywhere on the suit.

123e I wonder if the tear by the knee has to do w pedaling vs paddling?
