Looks really good.. Did you pick the mushrooms your self?
Yup... and I dehydrated some too which is what I used this time.  Fresh shrooms would have been better.  But with these recent rains it won't be long before fresh chanterelles start popping up soon.

Recipes / Yummy Crab Pasta
« on: November 03, 2014, 12:22:02 PM »
-  Boil some spaghetti or angel hair pasta.  And while boiling.....

-  Sautee some chopped garlic in a couple tablespoons of butter.
-  Add the crab butter and broth from the inside of two big steamed or boiled Dungeness crabs
-  Add a dash of cognac or port
-  Add some herbs (I used some dried basil an oregano)
-  Add some chopped mushrooms (I used wild chanterelles)
-  Stir in some heavy cream and simmer to reduce and thicken
-  Toss in some crab meat

Combine the drained noodles and sauce.... and ENJOY!!!!

If you go this route, make sure you buy HDPE. HDPE floats (barely), acrylic, ABS, PVC all sink.  :smt009
True.... and easy enough to test out in your kitchen sink.

Craftsmen's Corner / DIY Crab Gauges
« on: November 03, 2014, 11:32:32 AM »
I make my own crab gauges.  They're easier to use, they float, and are heck of a lot cheaper than store bought gauges.  I bought a small sheet of plastic for less than a dollar at Tap Plastics which is enough to make half-a-dozen gauges to use at spares or share with your buddies.  Be sure to check and double check measurements with a good ruler or caliper.  A sharp utility knife, straight edge, and cutting board are the only tools I used.

I made two different styles.  The gauge in the middle is probably easier for rookies to use.  You simply flip it over to the type of crab you're measuring.

Awesome!

Sweet yeah only other question i have is how u get the crays out the trap? I dont see a door...? Or a bait box etc. ive got a couple traps and often set them up in Tahoe. Id love to get together and do a boil... Maybe trap a bunch then shoot down to doran and do some crabs at same time.... Thx for posting
Ditto.  Sounds like a good idea to me.

Wow... I really enjoyed that video.  THANKS!
That boat ride looked a little wet and sketchy.  That's exciting!

It's been almost exactly one year since NCKA lost brother Joel "Mooch" Lotilla after a hard fought 3 year battle with breast cancer.

This year, the disease hit me even closer to home with my wife Mercy being diagnosed with breast cancer in April.  Fortunately, her tumor was caught early during her annual mammogram.  In June, she went through a 12 hour operation for a mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.  Thankfully, the operation was successful.  And overall, Mercy's recovery is going well despite some complications and the never-ending schedule of doctor visits.  Mercy has been a real trooper and I'm so proud of how she's battling the disease and keeping a positive attitude through it all.

Needless to say, it was a rough summer for me, and this is why I've been laying low and not getting out much.

I registered for the Komen Race for the Cure this Sunday, September 28th because I want to make an impact in the fight against breast cancer.  I'm doing it for my wife Mercy ... and in memory of our friend Joel.

Please consider making a tax-deductible donation today in support of my fundraising efforts.  Here's the link to the my donation page:

Hojoman.... Is it even legal to whack a rattlesnake with a golf club?  :smt003

I took the scaled fish skins off the fillets, cut them into strips, sprinkled salt on them, and deep fried them to tasty crunchy goodness.  You should try it.  You'll like it!

As much as I like to cook, I don't own a dutch oven.  I been wanting one for a long time, especially now after watching that great video posted by SeaWeed.

Question -- Is it better to the get the dutch oven with or without the little feet?  Which is more versatile?

Hojoman.... THANK YOU for doing what you do!!!!  :worship
