Thank you BigJim for holding the stuff for us...   it's never fun to be the guy who has to put everything in the garage then coordinate with a thousand folks afterwards.

I had an excellent time after a long hiatus off the water.  Thanks Jim and the rest of the crew for the planning and execution.

1 spiny dogfish, 1 black rockfish, 3 kingfish (used as bait).  Also managed to come home with a nasty sunburn acquired while watching the pig dismemberment.

Glad to have a new bunch of friends in the Santa Cruz area to invite out, too!

Last minute retro-fit for my roof rack on the new car...  and a dusting off of the kayak after too many months of neglect.   I'll be there, supporting the brotherhood of Joels!

I was in that exact spot on Monday fishing -- a few rockfish but what struck me was how many dolphin (I probably saw 20-25), sea lions, seals, and otters I saw.  I guess the landlord is drawn to bait balls, just like other big fish.

I need to get a giant rotomolded swimbait, apparently.

I'm launching from Capitola tomorrow -- 6:00am launch time.   Channel 6-9er.

Capitola tomorrow -- 6:00-ish launch time.    Just north of the pier or (for those of you who eschew the ankle-lapping waves) launch from the pier itself.   Channel 6-niner.

Planning on heading out to the mile reef and letting the wind push me home by 1:00-ish.

Agreed with barndoor -- the carry down from the base of the wharf to the H2O is pretty simple at Capitola.  Stairs and more complexity at NBSB.   I'll post here the night before each day before I go... but if anyone wants to do a day at the SCruz harbor launch pad, I'd be happy to do one of the days from there!

Anything to prove to Mooch that there are fish in Santa Cruz!

I'll be launching every day of the first week of July from NBSB and/or Capitola.   Dropping kids at camp around 8:30 and on the water shortly thereafter.

For safety and companionship, company is always welcome!

There, I did it.  I finally walked down to Bayside in Santa Cruz and signed myself up for the Sand Crab 2012.   I think I'll start fishing in Monterey and work my way North to Santa Cruz along the beaches.   Anyone interested in a meet-up?

Dermestid beetles are easier to find that you'd think...  you know those fuzzy little wormy things you sometimes find in containers of bait crickets or mealworms?  Those are dermestid larvae.  Also, you can collect your own by putting something dead out for a day in the sun -- the beetles just fly on in!

Or you could buy 'em from a science supply catalog.
http://wardsci.com/ has them.

I agree -- thank you guys for another fine event.   I made sure to go to the weigh-in so I could be reminded what a fish looks like.

I spent the beautiful sunrise in Marina and worked my way up to Santa Cruz with not even a nibble.   I don't know how the magicians found even one fish, I was completely skunked.

Left early, sounds like the raffle went well.  I gave my tickets to some guys I met in Marina, Salinas River, and Moss.  Hope you three won something good!
