My assumption is that the search will look for all combinations that include the letter combinations of each word and not just the complete phrase. Therefore, If the search includes the word "I", it will return every word that contains the letter "I". You can imagine how many returns such a search would produce.

If the thread isn't in a members-only section, Google search usually works better than the site search. For example: https://www.google.com/search?q=site%3Awww.norcalkayakanglers.com+%22how+I+roll%22
