Anyone who surf launches needs to take caution when carrying 5lb balls.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Bead Management

Thank you everyone for all of the ideas. I looked on Amazon, and they have lots of craft bead storage containers to think about too.

Thanks for the info!

SFD looks super-simple. But, are we really supposed to use a descending device, even if fish are caught in relatively shallow water? I usually fish for for bigger game, and generally barbless. I've released vast numbers of RF bycatch, and it's always no-touch--just grab the hook and shake. It seems to me that a descending device will have a lot more chance of harming the fish than what I do, with no possible benefit, at least in shallow(ish) water.

No I'm sure if it goes down easy like you said a few shakes and it goes , that's the best way anyway. As far as harming effect if its bad enough its lingcod/shark bait.
Can you imagine the look on that lingcod when it sees a large fish being shaken as you yank on the descending device. LOL heck it might be worth putting a lure on above the descending device and leave it there after you yank the other fish off eh? never know.

This will work with smaller fish.

Tip: When building lures, I do all my work in a shallow baking sheet. That keeps those pesky little parts from rolling away. I learned this the hard way when my wife stepped on a #4 hook that found its way to the carpet.

Good idea, I use shallow baking sheets when servicing reels. The picture I posted was this last weekend when I was re-tying my newly acquired kokanee lures. Looking forward to going out again.

Regulations were passed by the Commission this morning. After the presentation by Marci Yaremko she said she wanted to thank all of the persons involved with providing input to staff. The first person she recognized was Paul Chang.

Thank you Paul for giving kayak fishermen a voice in the process. And thanks for speaking today to the commission about keeping our petition in their thoughts.

General Fishing Tips / Bead Management

I have frustrating trouble with Seps bead containers. No matter how careful I am when I try to close the package the beads go flying everywhere. At this point with new ones I just dump them out to get it over with, and not finding them all makes it easier to close them up.

I was thinking of putting the different sizes into a small sectioned tackle tray but wanted to see if anyone has a great idea for controlling these little beasts.

I use magnets to pull stuff around in the hull.

General Fishing Tips / Re: Freshwater Line Choice

I recommend not having line under 10lb test. I think every large trout I have caught in the EBRPD has had broken off hooks some with light line leaders.

Introductions / Re: Greetings from Fairfield

Welcome, just this last Saturday I mixed a can of tuna with a can of corn, and caught a limit of kokanee.

Wow what a blast today at Sly Creek. I was ready to head out when Kevin showed up so he pointed out the way to go. Right off the bat I landed a nice brown, and then for awhile I only had a few bites. Eventually Kevin caught up, and I followed him, as he explained that we just needed to keep going until found the Kokanee schools.

Eventually we did, and it was nonstop bites, and lost fish. I ended up with my limit of 5 10-11” and a rainbow by the time headed in.

A big thank you to Kevin for showing me the way to my first Kokanee.

We are still waiting on the In Season Adjustments to the standard regulations just published. F&W will present recommendations to the PSMFC, and then they make recommendations to the F&G commission for final approval. Still awhile before we will know what the season will be.

General Talk / Re: West Marine clearance — Daiwa Lexa 100 LC

I picked up another Lexa 100 LC, and a Takota 400 LC. They have lots of reels, and rods on clearance right now.

Also, you may want to start out in freshwater to get comfortable with the layout, and dealing with smaller fish.
