I’m excited to announce the first annual Fish Like a Girl Kayak Fishing Tournament. The tournament and party will be on September 26th, 2020.

The event will be held at the Manchester Beach/Mendocino coast KOA located at

44300 Kinney Road
Manchester, CA 95459

KOA is giving 10% off reservations of any type if you call and mention the fish like a girl tournament or my name when making your reservations. Call and ask for Yolanda here:

Reserve: 800-562-4188
Info: 707-882-2375

This will be an “open launch” style tournament with teams of two. Think about who you want your partner to be. The idea is every team must have a girl and if you don’t then at least one of the boys on the team must dress like a girl. The intent is to get more women on the water, to have fun, and to promote good sportsmanship.

Registration will open March 10th. You will be able to register online or by mail. There will be a $4-$5 service fee online. The registration fee will start at $50 and go up to $65 per person. It will be open until September 2nd. For registering you will receive a goodie bag, surf n turf dinner, and eligibility for exclusive prizes. Dinner tickets will be sold separately for family/friends/those who don’t want to fish!

Friday evening we will have a quick captains meeting and potluck! Bring a delicious dish to share!

The tournament format will look like this. Check-in in the morning at KOA. Fish anywhere along the coast (recommended to stay in Sonoma/Mendocino counties) and be back by 2:30 for weigh in. Both teammates can turn in up to 3 fish, but must be 3 different species. 2 different species of rockfish will be accepted. Lingcod, rockfish, king salmon, ca halibut, cabezon, greenling, and perch will all be accepted. Photos will be accepted if you want to release fish. Top 3 teams, top 3 females, and top 3 males will be awarded trophies. Every participant will receive up to 5 raffle tickets into the grand prize raffle. You will receive a ticket for entering the tournament, 1 per fish turned in (up to 3) and 1 for tbd!  :smt003 you will be entered to win prize packages- 3 for males and 3 for females!

I’m curious to see which of the boys will be dressing up like girls to fish this.  Hahah :smt005

Sounds like a good time.  Unfortunately my wife isn’t much as a fisher woman but still enjoys being out on the water.

Sounds like a lot of fun.

Should we start a poll to vote in who we want to have dress like a girl?

That's not going to be as tough to convince folks to do as you might think.
