Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Fishing rod choices« on: March 24, 2018, 08:16:06 AM »Get a 7' tiger ugly stik and a Penn 209M, load it with 30lb braid and go fishing. There's plenty of time to overthink things, but do it while you are already fishing and spending time on the water seeing what others are doing. A lot of kayak fishermen have a tendency to overcomplicate things. We should create a fishing overthinking app with a shock buzzer that trips after a certain amount of unproductive time lapse. Oh the hours I've wasted without bait in the water... 3153
General Fishing Tips / Re: Slow pitch rockfishing« on: March 24, 2018, 06:24:35 AM »The butterfly jugs are from amazon 4 are Shimano and 2 are reeldiculous. My reel is a siegler sgn at 38" per crank.I ended up casting my slow pitch rod pretty well from a pier today hoping for a diamondback. Certainly not designed for casting but got it out there. What reel did you go with? I just measured the line retrieve of my Komodo 364 with 100 ft out and it was down to about 67 cm. The goal is supposed to be keep it above 75 cm. My 463 might make that. Where did you buy your lures? 3154

General Fishing Tips / Re: Slow pitch rockfishing« on: March 20, 2018, 09:09:26 PM »I ordered the 7ft to move around the bow better. I am tired of spectra wrapping around the rod tip while jigging. I am stoked to try my first spiral wrapped rod.Sweet! 3158

General Fishing Tips / Re: Slow pitch rockfishing« on: March 20, 2018, 11:33:55 AM »Dang, those Kil Songs and black holes are out of my league by far price wise... but there is always another birthday, we hope, wait..... Father's day is coming up....nah just kiddin'. Honestly not for bait fishing but I would like to catch my 3rd sturgeon on it and get a feel for parabolic heaven on earth.Dang, gold standard, good stuffGuess I'll have to try one. 200+# Pac halibut is sort of convincing. 3160

General Fishing Tips / Re: Shimano Baitrunner D vs Penn Spinfisher LL« on: March 20, 2018, 07:34:33 AM »Is the secondary drag on the Spinfisher light enough for trout? I'm leaning a bit more towards the SSV because they're a bit more waterproof and there have been times when my gear has taken a dip while kayaking. But someone please correct me if I am wrong on that.It is super smooth and all that but I realize I coulda took and step down and been happy. That receipt is long hidden and gone...I forget the budget my beautiful wife gave me at that time and I think I justified an upgrade. Sorry bout the pain, I will fish it well on your behalf...shimano is top notch as you know anyhoo 3162
General Fishing Tips / Re: Slow pitch rockfishing« on: March 20, 2018, 07:16:39 AM »Rod in hand, it has a strength that I cannot explain...not as noodly as I expected...kinda supernatural I think ....this vid impresses, it is the same strength, less 11", which may have made the difference, as the one I bought and I am now super sold...Looks to me like the plus really is in lure presentation, but the minus is in retrieving the fish. You can short stroke any conventional rod. 3163
