I used to surf OB as well.  There are very few days where it would be possible to make it out.  Be prepared to go swimming if you decide to give it a go.

Safety First / Re: Treble Hook in My Ear
« on: June 16, 2021, 11:20:15 AM »
Two weeks or so ago as I was getting out of the water at ARW, a boater at the ramp was asking for wire cutters.  He had two treble hooks from a crank bait buried in his hand.   Eventually, he found someone with split ring pliers and was able to remove the lure.  After seeing that, I added those to the kayak.

Fast forward two weeks and I managed to get a hook buried in the finger.  Now I'm adding wire cutters.

The weather was great. A little bumpy early but it got glassy. Lots of shakers. I didnít hear anyone getting keepers.

I have a Trevala M. I wish I had purchased the ML. Your probably okay with either. I have used the M with 1 pound balls at the Faralons but its more than u need for halibut in the bay. I tend not to use the rod. It seems most people on this board get thr ML.

When I looked into making a bamboo gaff, the hard part was finding Calcutta bamboo. You can find it on line but it Wasn't practical to purchase. I ended up making one from wooden dowel and coating it with epoxy to waterproof it.

If you have health insurance. Go to hospital. Itís not worth risking your eyesight.  I delayed two ER trips this year and regretted it both times.

I can sit on a kayak or surfboard all day and donít get sick but  standing on a boat makes me feel ill in minutes.

I get the transderm skop (Sp?) patches from Kaiser and they are great.

For those of u who get blurry vision. Do u wash your hands really well after applying the patch?  I know that if u get the medicine on your hands and rub your eye, u will get blurry vision.

I have to agree that you should never confront someone about this sort of thing. It can lead to escalation and god only knows who you are confronting or their mindset. Call law enforcement. If they show up in a timely fashion, great. If not, itís just a couple crabs.

I run a bow tie down to the tow hooks under the front bumper. For the rear I tied some webbing around a small block of 2x4. Works the same as those Anchor points just not as pretty.

I switch back and forth between a Spyderco PM2 and a Benchmade 940.

For what it's worth, after experimenting with different rod holders on my trident 13, I've found that using a rocket launcher style rod holder avoids interference with my paddle stroke.

I had an Atlantic salt and loved the knife. Unfortunately, it's currently sitting at the bottom of the SF Bay near the ARW. No more expensive knives for the kayak. Stainless Morakniv companion is $15, has a sheath and does okay in the salt with quick rinse at the end of the day

A bead swivel between the dodger and the bait makes a difference in keeping the leader from getting twisted and tangling on itself.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Shimano Tekota: New vs Old

I have the 2018 version but have not used it enough to meaningfully comment.

Just to add to the confusion. It's been changed again.
