Does anybody know how the AI furler drum differs between the pre-2015 and 2015-and-newer versions?

The pre-2015 version is Hobie part number 79512001:

The 2015-and-newer version is Hobie part number 79512002:
https://westcoastsailing.net/hobie-kayak-drum-island-mast-furle-2015/

The back story is that I've got a 2014 AI, and I've been slowly piecing together a second AI, based on my 2013 Hobie Adventure that I've had since I bought it new. I'd managed to get every part, except for the mast. I recently got ahold of a  windsurfer mast that is in excellent condition and seems to be exactly the right size. But, now I need the furler drum (plus the mast base and mast cap, neither of which is as critical, as I think I can fabricate those, if need be). It seems that Hobie no longer sells the furler drum for the pre-2015 models, while the newer version of the furler drum is available. So, I'm wondering if the newer version is backwards compatible...
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Looks to me that you can make a V2 into a V1 with a bandsaw? I can only guess, but it looks like a redesign of the top, but probably not the rest of the dimensions

Looks that way to me too. The only issue might be the diameter of the mast, but my guess is that it’s the same. If I can get the part, I’ll give it a try, as it’s surprisingly cheap for a Hobie part.

I admire your tenacity. You’ve been working on building this AI for quite some time.

I seem to recall that the real difference was on the receiver end, which is what made the v2 drum eo much larger. Bearings and such were different.
Mind you this is all based on how shocked I was when I went from v1 to v2,, so take that for what you will

I ordered the v2 drum, but even for that, Hobie cannot provide a delivery date, so I have no idea when (or if) I’ll get it.

It seems to me that Hobie support has really gone downhill, so much so that if I was looking for a new ride, I’d probably go with a different brand.

It is tempting! It would be great to motor some distance in the AM, fish all day, then sail home...

Btw, I ordered the 2015+ furler drum, and it's on backorder, with no timetable as to when it might become available. I would not be too surprised if Hobie decides to get out of the kayak business altogether, or at least get out of the sailing kayak business. They've cut the AI, and I doubt they sell a lot of TIs.

Anyways, it seems to me that Hobie's customer support is pretty lame, and nothing like it used to be. The only good news is that common parts (such as mirage drive chains) are available from 3rd party vendors. But, more specialized parts like this furler drum seem to be unobtainable...
