Title: 2019 Hobie Outback Rear Hatch?
Post by: 123engineering on December 22, 2022, 03:54:05 PM
I have a rear circular hatch that was removed from my 2017 Outback sitting around, and I am considering installing it on my 2022 Outback as a rainy-day project.
It will provide easy access to repair or replace rudder lines but has the potential for water leak paths.

Do you see any other benefits or issues?

Several outstanding videos show how to install it.

Paul I have all the parts for the installation, but haven’t done so yet. The main reason I wanted to was so that I could install the pro angler BOA rudder adjustment.

The outback has an issue with extreme temp swings making the rudder adjustment out of whack.

Hi John

I didn't know such a thing existed.  I have to do some research.

More hatches is always more better, IMHO.

I was glad that the newer outback does not have the aft hatch.  The aft hatch on the four PA14s l have owned, leak.

The Hobie round hatches can leak, but in my experience, they're easier to waterproof than, say, the front hatch on a Revo 16 or AI.

I actually think I would pass unless I need to get into that area.  I have a box on top, so getting in while on the water is a moot point.  and an extra place to leak is no-bueno.

I have an annoying trickle in my square hatch as it is.   just enough to mess with my mental well being..haha.

holes In my kayak.  less is more.
