General Talk / Re: Kayak Angler Magazine

I noticed that the NRS online site already has the magazine listed in their referall source list when requesting a catalogDince it is a Canadian publication, I hope they establish a set subscription amount rather have people figure out the currency conversion.

I think this discovery needs to be publicized beyond this forum.

Sometimes airing things out is good for the group, rather than doing it privately. As a technical editor who works with words for a living, I know that, no matter how carefully you word things, it can be misinterpreted easily.

I would have to agree that having a Mooch or Chuck E here makes this site very friendly to whomever chooses to communicate. Very helful fellows. I mean, I had just met Mooch at the Fishermans Warehouse sale and he offers me the use of his X-Factor for demoing purposes...what a shock. (Not anymore, since I've learned more about his generous nature). And chuck gave more kayaking info outside the kayaking seminars than I got from the seminars themselves. I don't see that kind of generosity on any other boards.

My teo cents anyway. Would type more but have a big bandage on my finger after a close encounter with some pruning shears.

Hi Janice. Try out Lake Pardee. Although you have to wear a full wetsuit to kayak there, the trout fishing is usually very good. Somebody just caught a 9 pound bass there.

BTW, I missed out on the kayak trailer in SF. C'est la guerre.

Nothing wrong with replying to your own post. The info is good. I believe you can also edit your previous posts too.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: New Gear for 2007
« on: March 06, 2007, 06:47:49 PM »
Must be a small arm and a leg, because I've seen other kayak trailers on the market for a lot more money. What intrigues me about the trailer is being able to reduce the length in order to store in the garage.

I got it at SportsRig (sportsrig.com) in Morro Bay. Mine has heavy duty shocks, 66" load bars, and a tongue extension so it will carry long boats (my closed deck is 18.5') and a load up to 750 lbs. I can configure two sets of standard saddles on the bars, but I'll bet it would accommodate three boats on J-racks. They also offer a version with a T-rack so you could haul even more boats or put a car-top box on it for your gear. And, yeah, they cost an arm and a leg, but my bad back was getting to the point of my either buying a trailer or giving up kayaking. I'm telling you, it IS sweet!

That is a very good reel. When I first bought mine when the dinos were still roaming the land, at that time, it was classified as a downrigger reel. But I used it for many years as my "Go To" reel for salmon, sturgeon, rockfish, halibut...very smooth drag.

I've developed a "frozen shoulder," and there's no telling how long that will last. So any loading method that doesn't require raising my arm above my shoulder is definitely worth looking into.

I indulged and bought a kayak trailer so I don't have to hoist my boats to the top of my SUV anymore. Woohoo! Also now I don't have an excuse for not going fishing more often.

Hi Janice. Where did you get the trailer?

Kayaks allowed there? I could never get a response from the people in the know there.
