Hello! I'm new to kayak fishing and live in Fort Bragg. I'm trying to meet a few local folks that fish the area that might be willing to let me come along on a trip or two. I've fished at Caspar once already but that's pretty much it. So far I've only hooked a handful of rockfish but am interested in learning how to target more fish. Thanks!

Howdy everyone! I'm a newbie ocean kayak fisherman and just recently moved to Fort Bragg. I'm trying to meet some other local kayak fisherman to tag along with and get some ocean fishing tips and tricks. I've yet to venture out on the open water but am really looking forward to trying it!

Tim, I know Cate as well and get a lot of information from her as well. She usually paddles around on Big River once or twice a week and chats with us from time to time about how the sand and river mouth keep changing. It's going to be interesting to see what kind of chaos this storm arriving tomorrow brings to the area. The latest swell report I saw is calling for 25+ foot swells through Monday!

I work at the mouth of Big River at Catch A Canoe, And Bicycles Too. We get a lot of kayakers asking this same question. You're right to be a bit nervous about exiting the river mouth there. Several kayakers were pinned up against the rock face on the south side of the river earlier this year and had to be rescued. It's doable according to some advanced sea kayakers in the area, but personally I wouldn't attempt it myself. The sand is moving around so much that it's tricky to find a clear route out past the breakers right now.

Hello there!

I'm Trevor and I currently live in Fort Bragg, CA. I recently moved here from Redding, CA this last summer. I have done plenty of kayak fishing on lakes and rivers, but never on the ocean. Now that I live on the coast I'd love to get started fishing the ocean. I'm hoping to be able to possibly meet some other local kayak fishing folks on here to go fish with. I have a Feel Free Lure 11.5 kayak that I've had for about 2 years now. Thanks for the add to the site. I look forward to learning and participating!
