100%, Ken, Adrian and I, and I'm sure several others are ready to get salty!
It would be awesome if there was a get together set up with all the salt newbs and a few seasoned vets to show up the ropes.
Maybe start at ARW for Halibut first and then another one later for venturing out on the big blue!

Launched Bo four times and 4 yardsales on landing.....

This makes me feel better. I've been there 2x and crashed 2x (once on launch, just as I was passing a surfer, and once when landing).
Please don't spoil my day, I'm miles away...

Good stuff here.  SF Bay is a great place, but probably not best for a first solo trip in the salt.  There are very strong currents and the wind turns on very quickly mid-day.  Trip planning is 100% required for the bay - I do not recommend trying to paddle/pedal against the current, especially when the tides are big.  Some places get a 3-4 knot current, which is faster than the cruise speed on most pedal kayaks... just something to keep in mind.

I recommend Sherman Island for a good place to "get your feet wet" so to speak.  Easy launch at the boat ramp, a nice large protected "lake" to learn and sort out your gear, and access to the Sac River when you are ready to test yourself in a little bit of current.  There are almost always boats and kayaks out there, and stripers can mostly be caught year round.

Lots of other wildlife there too.  I take the kids there a couple times each summer just to paddle around and watch the otters, turtles, birds, sea lions, coyotes, and stoats.

If you post your planned trip as a “hookup” you can get some advice about the location, weather, tides, the fishing, and generally your plan.  Folks here are very helpful - collaborative effort for sure!

It is hard to beat HMB for the best "beginner " spot. First off is there is no breaking waves to deal with.  Next is fishing is not that far away.  Another big plus is... there is actually lots of life there. The rockfish are not usually big there, but sometimes the bigger lingcod, halibut, and salmon move in.
We have the government, that our forefathers warned us about.

For starters - no equipment, shallow water, practice flipping an self rescue, launch and landing, learn your tipping point. . Things get different with equipment so practice that too.

Download surfline app free version. "Poor" surfing conditions as designated by the app tend to be good/easier launching conditions.

You might want to get a group together and hire a guide to show you the ropes.  Eric comes to mind.  I've taken several of his clinics at Shelter Cove and, while not for newbies, he always covers safety as a tailboard before we launch just to refresh everyone on the general and the specific local safe practices.

I recall I learned at Lake Natoma, down stream from Folsom Lake, with a group of NCKA folks.  I'm foggy on the details on how that came about though.  Back in the day, there used to be many clinics, both dry land and on the water, for learning how to fish from a kayak for various species.  They were held at kayak shops.  Lodi and Sacramento were two that I attended.

The guys that I'm talking about are all experienced freshwater fishermen so no need for basic instruction. We have been getting all of the safety gear collected and familiarized with. We're just looking for someone to show us what to use, how to rig and where to go at ARW.
I fish, therefore I Cuss and Lie!
