General Fishing Tips / Red Bouy off Cannery Row
« on: October 18, 2013, 08:01:51 AM »
I've seen a few guys fishing out by the red bouy off of Cannery row.  What bites out there?

Nice tribute

Many Thanks!!!  Looks like 2 of these will be our next purchase. :smt003

Is there someplace local that we can puchase the chart you snapped a photo of?  The little rule book doesn't work on the water and doesn't really show realistic photos.

From the two yellow cans to Lovers Point is off limits. You can fish for fin fish all along the kelp beds off Cannery Row. You can also fish past Lovers Point. Heard there are some good ling that direction.

Saw a couple guys fishing past the cans. Was wondering if it was ok from kayaks, but everything I found says no. Not sure how often F&G make stops there.

We've been launching at MBK but we tried out San Carlos Beach on Sunday. Great place to launch if the swell isn't too high. You can also launch from the Marina there.

Probably saw you out there on Sunday.  My husband and I were fishing off the Aquarium most of the morning.  We also caught some decent size rock fish.  The weather and the swell couldn't have been better.

Awsome video!  Both of what to do (lots of great fish caught) and what not to do (WIPE OUT!)

This is great info!  The husband and I have not ventured much out of Monterey Bay along cannery row yet.  Still working on building stamina (I'm not the strongest paddler), fishing skills and general confidence OTW.  Really looking forward to tackling some of the other fishing holes, but knowing basic calculationg like this will help me pick when and where to tackle some of em.  I really don't want to have to be towed in cause I got in over my head :-)

Hi Ken!  My husband and I are also in Prunedale and just started kayak fishing.  Like your wife, I don't like the wetsuites/farmer johns for kayaking.  I bought NRS pants and a splash jacket at MBK and they work great.  I seem to splash a lot when I paddle, but they keep me warm even if the breeze is up.

Howdy from Monterey County! My husband (Coby65) and I just bought our Tarpon's about a month ago with the sole purporse of fishing from them.  We've been out a couple times and are just loving it.  We still have to make a few purchases so our trips are a bit more productive (fish finder is next on the list!).  So, I've been snooping around the forum for about a month gathering info and figured it was time I joined.

We're camping down in San Simeon next weekend and hope to meet a few of you in person.
