General Talk / Congress approves bill allowing the killing of sea lions... to protect salmon« on: December 13, 2018, 06:35:11 AM »
Dec. 12, 2018 / 12:16 PM PST / Source: Associated Press
By Associated Press PORTLAND, Ore. — Congress has agreed to make it easier to kill sea lions threatening fragile runs of salmon in the Northwest. Oregon Public Broadcasting reports that a bill approved by the House Tuesday changes the Marine Mammal Protection Act to lift some of the restrictions on killing sea lions to protect salmon and steelhead in the Columbia River and its tributaries. The measure had previously passed the Senate. Wildlife managers say sea lion populations have grown so large that they no longer need all the protections that were put in place for them in 1972. https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/congress-approves-bill-allowing-killing-sea-lions-protect-salmon-n947126 4

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Scotty mounts for downriggers« on: November 29, 2018, 09:04:22 PM »I've mounted a Scotty Laketroller downrigger on my 13' Ocean Kayak Trident, and a Scotty Depthmaster and a Cannon Lake-Troll on my 13' Revolution. The Cannon Lake-Troll is definitely my favorite downrigger setup. For an explanation of how I mounted it on my Revolution, how I set up my Revolution for downrigger trolling, why I set it up that way, and how to use a downrigger from a kayak, see http://www.northwestkayakanglers.com/index.php?topic=12575.msg138905#msg138905. I have a Cannon Lake Troll like yours. Do you have a video of how you mounted it or different angle of views and dow it works? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 6

Fishing Tournaments and Events / Re: Crabfest 2018... Registration has closed« on: January 18, 2018, 08:31:23 PM »YesThis is the first year we have done a pre-registration for this event. The last day to register for the competition part was 01/05/18. If you did not register you can still partake in the festivities, crabbing, raffle and potluck, just not the competition portion. This may be a good first time practice run with so many kayakers around. Not in it win anything. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk 10

General Talk / Re: Show me your Crab buoy paint« on: December 06, 2017, 07:51:30 AM »There are specialty buoy paints availabile at places like Englund’s which have a cool factor but unless you live near a store which sells it then that’s a PITA. I have found Krylon Fusion to work great, it is even works on plastic. For your CDFW GO ID number the best approach I’ve seen is to burn it in with a soldering iron type wood burner or framing nail held in vice grips and heated by a propane torch and then apply paint to the number via a small brush. Humboldt Vinylon Bouy paint, there are others. Maybe one of the commercial crabbers here on the forum will improve upon my suggestions. Mine are tricolor yellow, white, and orange with the orange being the only one which shows up worth a s#!t.Does the GO ID gets changed each year or stays same ID number? 14

Just picked a couple of old crab buoys that needs a fresh coat of paint. What type of paint is recommended? Water based?
