Fish Talk / San Diego Charters
« on: May 31, 2015, 08:33:44 PM »
Anyone here ever take a offshore charter out of San Diego? We are vacationing in the area in July and I was considering a day trip. Do they run 6 packs or would my only option be a party boat? Off shore in so cal would be a new thing for me and the schedules seems a bit different than nor cal as it seems many go into Mexican waters.

Thanks in advance. Phil

Not sure if they will be on two weeks from now, but I was out yesterday and the crappie were schooling up good. some big bait balls around the ramp area. Trout are pretty scattered, bass guys are doing ok on mixed baits. Definitely bring some crappie jigs.

For trout I had best luck with a chartreuse hoochie on a dodger top lined 100' out. I usually do better on pink but not this time.

The trout are still pretty skinny with all the bait in the system. Hopefully they start to fatten up. I released them all so did not get to check stomach contents.

Water temp was 58-59. Viz was about 5-6'.

Good luck with the event.

I thought 3d printing still really expensive. End up being 75.00 zworm?

New gear is always fun, but 50K?

I have a X4 pro B&W head unit that I do not need/use anymore. If you happen to have this unit might make a great backup.

Will trade for one hard bait of your choice. Surprise me!

Hope someone can put it to use. I am in Napa.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Re: Waders bootfoot or stocking?
« on: February 01, 2015, 07:30:33 AM »
Boot foot are good for duck hunting and boat waders. If you want comfort and mobility go stocking foot. X10 if you pedal as those lug boots will drive you crazy.

"I do not think IVR is open anymore and was all but drained last I saw. Please, please prove me wrong!

Indian Valley is improved to 13% full which is 3 times what it was last year. It has to keep raining!

Thanks Worm guy. Even if we get hammered this spring. And it's not looking good. I would assume most of the population has died off so it will take a few years of stocking to get a fishable population back.

Hennessy in Napa would be great depending on time of year. The launch and parking is small but can work. They do a well attended kids event at the lake every year. I doubt attendance would be much bigger than that.

Fish Talk / Re: Fish ID Help: Monterey fishing this past weekend

Lots of memory's catching those of my grandfather's boat. He would always like to clean and slice them up sashimi style right in the galley after we bring them in just a touch of wasabi and soy YUM! I am not a big mackerel eater these days but those memory's make my mouth water. I bet they would be great smoked as well.

Mack's if you ask me.

You did not really say why you are moving. Taxes, politics, outdoor opportunity, work, economics of retirement... That could help guide things a bit.

Gearing Up and Rigging Up / Found Hobie paddle.
« on: January 03, 2015, 08:36:09 PM »
Hi I found a Hobie paddle at a launch in Napa. If it happens to be yours just let me know what launch you left it at and anything identifying about it?

Best,
Phil

Am I reading this wrong? If fishing any open stream you must have a steelhead report card in your possession? So salmon fishing the sac or bass fishing the Russian requires a report card? I agree that it is good practice, but a legal requirement?

Just to clarify. If we have a current HDI unit can you buy a new transducer to upgrade to Chirp or is the software/head unit different.
